BGDL 16 - Edo Baraf: Things to Consider when Adding Custom Components to Your Game

Edo Baraf, designer of Herbaceous, discusses the many different types of custom components you can add to your games and the challenges and considerations that go with each one. We talk custom dice, boards, boxes, inserts, meeples, sleeves, and more. (Not miniatures. That will be its own episode.)

Edo has experience with lots of custom components and offers a ton of insight on the things to be aware of when adding them to your game.

"Nice" ... Edo is a cool dude!

You're doing a great job with the podcasts. Can't wait for the episode of "Minis" because there was a "Tactical" version of "Tradewars - Homeworld" that I might want to bring to life... but I wanted more information about the "Minis".

Anyhow please share us the BGDL podcast whenever that Episode airs!

Great job @Gabe! (And @Edo too!) LOL

Thanks, man. I'm really glad

Thanks, man. I'm really glad you're enjoying the show.

Excellent interview!

Gabe,

I greatly enjoyed the interview with Edo. What impressed me most was the fact that he spoke, not only of the custom components, but also of the costs associated with moving one's game from basic to custom accessories. Also, I can only hope that designer's take your sage advice by not attempting to "bling" their first project to the point at which it never sees the light of day due to the costs.

Cheers,
Joe

You're completely right. It can be so easy for a design to grow out of control.

I know from personal experience that it can take a while to learn that it's often better to cut from a design than add to. And that's definitely the case with custom components.

I believe the MOQ is 500 units at most Chinese factories. And then you can go upwards to 10,000 units for higher orders.

Name of Manufacturer

What was the name of the manufacture that Edo said he uses? He mentioned Panda and another names "Watts?" I can't find the watts one. Mainly because I have no idea how it is supposed to be spelled.
Thanks to anyone who knows!

Yeah, it's spelled "Whatz."

Yeah, it's spelled "Whatz." Took me a while to find it as well.
