Göttingen 2013

Hi,

have been to the game designer meeting in Göttingen, Germany. It is the greatest meeting in europe and about 200+ designers and 30 game companys met.

I had 3 proto games with me, Schiffe Versenken, Schnappschusssafari (Snapshotsafari) and Prom Night. I was able to let Schiffe Versenken (Battleships) being reviewed with a proto by a publisher and talked with two other companys about it.
Schnappschuss Safari was a very popular game with the visitors but I couldnt find any publisher to be content with it. I will maby work it over, a nice game.
Prom Night is my card game with two new machanics. We played it and I will try to enhance the 2 player game.

I met a lot of cool designers and saw great new prototypes.

do you need to speak fluent

I browsed pictures of game designers' meeting in Göttingen. It looked like a relaxed meeting. To be taken seriously, do you need to speak fluent german out there? (honestly) Or can you manage just with a german rule paper and presentation in English? Official web page of "Treffen"?

english is OK

Hi,

I think that most designers and publishers speak english. Göttingen is as you said a relaxed meeting. Dont come to Göttingen, if you only want to "sell" your game to a publisher. It is more playing protos, meeting game designers and playing your game and if you are lucky, there will be 1 or 2 publishers who want to see what you are doing. If you want to meet the publisher, make a apointment in before.

thanks

Thanks for your advice! -regzr

no need to speak German

I´ve been to Göttingen for the second time this year.
And from my expierience I can only underscore that there is no need to speak German.
Almost all people there can speak Englisch, and in case someone can´t, I´m sure you will find a voluntary translator at the table next to you.
By the way, this year I talked to two people from publsihers who also didn´t spak German, so maybe spaking English is more useful than speaking German.
