Introduction

Greetings! I am a newbie to the BGDF. I am not a professional designer, although I do have one minor publishing credit. Until I retired, I was a computer hardware design engineer. Ironically, I worked on the processor designs for the XBOX360 and the Playstation3, but I rarely if ever play console games.

My specific interest is board and miniatures historical wargaming, but I am not adverse to other genres. I started playing board wargames when I inherited Blitzkrieg when my brother died in 1970. I subscribed to Strategy and Tactics in 1972 and occasionally added a game from TAHGC to my collection. I can recall using counters from various wargames on a hand-drawn map of Europe to play my own version of World War II, so I guess my design days go back to the early '70's as well.

I am heading to Protospiel in Bloomington, Minnesota tomorrow. This will be my first serious attempt at getting others to play (and provide feedback for) any of my games. Wish me luck!

Dave

Welcome!

I'm sure you'd probably like to chat with "The Professor" (Joseph) my game's Developer. He has worked with Compass Games (http://www.compassgames.com/) and has played many Wargame Simulations...

He's even been playtesting some newer versions with rather long set-up times.

As you can see Joe's connection with Compass makes for something interesting to talk about. Maybe he'll be around for a few message.

I know I have sent him a PM ... maybe he'll be online during the weekend.

And again welcome!

So many memories of playing

So many memories of playing old war game simulations with my Dad. We haven't played one in years but he was a die hard historical gaming fan.

Panzer Blitz, Panzer Leader, Drang Nach Osten, Terrible Swift Sword, Borodino, Ney vs Wellington and Flat Top are the ones that come to mind.

In particular I think his favourite was Terrible Swift Sword. It took weeks to play through, but was a very interesting game. I randomly have a very nuanced knowledge of that battle because of playing that game, so people don't often realize what a strong educational component true historical simulations can have.

Best of luck at Protospiel!!!
