Kingdoms of Immacus: Te'Kesh Card Face Art Highlight

Kingdoms Logo New.jpg

So like I said in my progress report I wanted to talk a little bit about my process in making these card faces for each individual races. This is just a small overview, but it will give some insight on my methods for making them. I start with the header of the card face first. To be consistent with my other card faces, I take the skin tone or look of a particular race and put that on the header where the rarity gem sits. I then do some embellishments that are representative of the race and add their eyes to give the header a little presence.

This is the finished header of the Te'Kesh race. They enslave others so I added the gold chains for effect and the patterned bracelets just add some color that breaks up all the orange on the card.

I move on to the sides of the card frame next and for this I wanted to do an Egyptian cobra since the race is inspired by ancient Egyptian culture and iconography.

This is the rough sketch I drew to then put on my computer and sketch digitally on Illustrator. Now that I have a tablet I will eventually experiment with doing sketches on Photoshop. I start with a line art layer, then a flat color layer underneath, and finally I do a "fancy" layer that I add color gradients etc. on to give it some depth and detail.

This is the final snake that went on the card frame. Took me a little longer than I wanted unfortunately to finish him.

Finally, I added some tablets with iconography to fill up the remaining part of the frame.

This is the final card with the frame and other components complete. It's a little blurry with the upload, but you should be able to get the idea. Now onward to finishing the cards for this race.

Best, -Jonathan Flike
