The Prohibition Era: An Uncommon Area (Part 3)

The game has now gone through a few versions, changing significantly with each one. I am finding it hard to settle on one version thus far. I believe this is due to finding errors within each version and wanting to make changed to the game.

I am currently working on a new version which will hopefully iron out most of the issues and set me on the right track towards having a relatively decent prototype.

This is the idea for the latest version's set-up.

The play area will consist of a number of 2x2" tiles set up in a 10x10 square randomly. Each tile represents a city block. There are various types of city blocks that each have different effects.

- Buildings that can be extorted for cash.
- Buildings that can be used as fronts for shady businesses.

Players have gangsters that they can move about the city to do their bidding, such as extorting, expanding your territory, and combat with enemy gangsters.

I am leaning towards trying a worker placement type mechanic, where you have a number of "lieutenants" to place on a separate action board. Each action will be different, such as "move 2 gangsters", or "Engage enemy". This is instead of something like every gangster can do one action every turn. It may be more thematic as well, as in the gangster era, they often worked in teams under a lieutenant or some such thing.

The game currently lasts a certain amount of turns, after which the player with the most VP's wins.

VP's are earned the following way.

- One VP per $1,000 (rounded down)
- One VP per city block owned
- One VP per alcohol produced

I am also thinking of adding secret mission cards where players will be rewarded end of game for how much of it they completed.

I would be happy to hear your thoughts so far!
