WonderCon woes, conflicted playtesters, and 1 Month til KingdomCon

WonderCon is over and done with. I rushed at the last second to print out card adjustments. I vowed to get a banner this year and had one set to print at Staples the day off. I call to pick up and they say the printer is down and I'll have to wait til 8PM!!! WHEN WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME THIS? I transfer the project and the new place says they'll have it done in an hour. I call and hour later and THEY DIDN'T EVEN START IT. ANOTHER hour lost. I didn't have a stand for said banner, so I went to Home Depot and bought a bunch of 1/2" pvc, couplers, and voila, Instant banner for 9 bucks. Only took me 30 mins to measure and cut.

The new gripe for the game from playtesters was "the board needs to be bigger". This directly conflicts with the other gripe which was "I don't feel the need to move". Granted, they were playing Wizard or Ranger, which pretty much only move to get out of harms way and attack from range. Random Treasure drops were supposed to alleviate that, but that just feels like new monsters appearing in Thunderstone. "Look, there's a new monster! aaaand the next player took it". Treasure was going to be added to the Wound deck and awarded to players who inflicted the Wounds in order to reward fighting, rather than turtle-ing. BUT, this doesn't solve the problem of moving. I want to add random traps which effect the dungeon as an expansion. If I add it to the main game, that would push my finish date even further back due to the need for testing. I think the game can stand on it's own two legs, but that's just my opinion.

KingdomCon is coming at the end of the month. Hopefully I'll have my masonry certification by then. I don't know what to expect with this convention. I just don't want it to be a repeat of LVO and have NO ONE playing board games. Biggest waste of time. I want a bigger banner made for Dungeon Brawl but I don't know if it will be a waste of money and effort for hardly anyone seeing it. I do still need it for ComicCon SD though, but that's also money I could have in the bank until then...

I'll Play

Do you have a nice social media following or anything? You can announce to your following that you'll be at Kingdom Con at whatever location your table is in. That might draw some people.

I'll be at Kingdom Con on the Saturday so I'll try to find you. I'll be happy to play your game and give you some feedback!

Increasing the number of spaces on the board without increasing the ranger/wizard range could make both groups happy.

Nice banner you have there, seems to blow up nicely and still look sharp. But if you're bigger banner requires a masonry certification, I think you're doing it wrong ;-)

As a former store manager of office max and office depot for many years I can tell you thing. With the amount of orders we would get anything last minute you can guarantee won't be done. I can also attest to the large format printers breaking all the time. Quality is good most of the time but give a weeks notice.
The banner looks cool tho. I would be intrigued by it. I also love wondercon.

No, unfortunately I don't use anything but facebook. I have a personal instagram and twitter which I use twice a year. It's really hard for me to bother with things like that. If I were told it is totally worth it, then I would. I'd be delighted for you to play and look forward to your criticism.

I think I'd have to up everyone's range by 1 in order to restore balance. The rogue has the toughest time moving and both her and the warrior have to be in the same square to attack. Wizard has teleport which would need to be reworked. Ranger has the longest range of 2. Increasing the arena will allow for both of them to turtle and have the others either fight amongst themselves or chase them as they blast from distance. Having "least wounds wins" really promotes turtling, but with limited space and more players, it becomes outpace everyone's damage. Thanks for the kind words on my banner.

Yeah. It just blows that I ordered the smallest one, which is "done in an hour" and couldn't bother to tell me that it's delayed. It also sucks because I went in to get prints done, and NOTHING was on backlog. I spent 6 hours on my image when I got home...then suddenly, BAM, all hell breaks loose.
