To Be Emperor - card game (Play Test Session)

Last night I met with three friends at Diversions, our local gaming store, and we gave my game a spin.

Video Wargame Conversions from the Tabletop

I've recently become quite interested in conversions between video games and tabletop games, especially wargames.

Playtesting continues and parts trouble

It's been 6 months since I've got the gumption to write a blog report and work on Tile Pile. I've had a few people playtest it, I've hammered out the details and I think it's time for the first major prototype. The problem is, my pieces are so unique, I can't find anyone who produces them nor find a manufacturer which produces them in the size I need.

K2

K2 is a mountain climbing game game by Adam Kałuża and published by Heidelberger Spieleverlag.

This, again, is quite a simple game that establishes a tense atmosphere. The aim is to get your two climbers as high up the mountain as you can, and keep them alive till the end of the 18-day game.

Fixing missing bits and writing rulebook

So, in a few weeks I will go to our biannual gaming weekend at a hotel here in Sweden (Varberg), and obviously I will bring my new prototype and hopefully get a couple of sessions recorded. I think this would be an excellent time to see if the rules are clear, so the first people to play will only be given the components and no further help from me (though I will of course be present and note how it goes).

Tradewars - Homeworld: Artwork

So I had my first meeting with a local artist to discuss the artwork for the game.

It was a very productive meeting which lasted more than an hour. We discussed artwork on a past project (Quest Adventure Cards(tm)) and how that artist approached the making of artwork. I showed him pencil/inked drawings which were used to make the final cards. As such I had the black & white artwork and the final product in hand for review.

So far, having discussed the artwork in detail, I am happy to say we have an artist that is interested in the project.

Current Game Ideas, their "hooks", and their core mechanisms

Keeping track of the various ideas in my head at the moment, so I thought I'd post a blog here and see if anyone had any thoughts about these things (if they sound similar to existing games, etc). I seem to be obsessed with initially safe push-your-luck mechanics because they seem like a controlled way of introducing uncertainty and "BIG" moments without surrendering the player's agency. Some or all of these games may end up not containing such a mechanic.

My Take On Sentinels of the Multiverse

Sentenels of the Multiverse

I've got a tabletop gaming community in my region that has been small but steady and slowly growing, especially in recent years. I participated this past Wednesday in one of the many gaming meetups and played a couple games of Sentinels of the Multiverse, a co-op comic book styled card game.

Dancing between Ideas

Hey BGDF world,

Right now I have lots of ideas in my head for games, and this is my first time attempting to actually get one all the way into small-scale production. Right now it's all still at the theoretical stage, with no prototype yet.

I'm hoping to make a game that incorporates these aspects: Co-operative play (though traitor aspect intrigues me), Hand and Resource Management, and perhaps a sort of "crawling" aspect as you progress from room to room or situation to situation, but that part is less certain.

Themes I have thought of so far are these:
