From the UK Games Expo to Essen

It's been a while since my last update pertaining to the Chip Shop board game. After realising that board games isn't that lucrative of a business, it slipped down my priority list somewhat. I also had a lot of feedback from the UK Games Expo (thanks to Carrie and Tyler for running the booth for me) to process and that took time...

I am happy to now announce the release of what I will call, version 0.2 of Chip Shop, complete with a lot of changes.

Print at Home Chip Shop is Released!

Chip Shop has been a labour of love for me over the past two years. It has been through many changes and revisions and isn't yet 100%, but I have always needed to get something live before it becomes a never ending process of 'polishing'.

After several play test sessions, I consider the game 'ready enough' to put up for sale and available to the public.

Feedback from first Playtesting session

After my first constructive play test session, here is the first wave of changes to the game.

Changing 'Personalities' to 'Staff'

People felt that the word 'Personality' was too strong and placed too much emphasis on the historical figures over the generic staff members. One fantastic idea was that these 'generic' staff cards could become kickstarter backers in the future and thus give people the chance to also be a 'Personality'.

Creating a Game with Markdown, Pandoc, Latex and PDFJam

The main reason for a lack of small posts on the progress of Chip Shop is that behind the scenes we have been working on some large stumbling blocks to push the game towards play testing. We wanted to focus on getting those completed over all else.

New and Improved Cards

We have added a lot of new cards but also spent time fleshing out the existing ones with flavour text, images, legal information and removing as much extraneous text as possible.

Goodbye Drupal, Hello Jekyll

Sorry for the lack of updates in a while. There have been two main reasons for this, other commitments kept me busy and I've been reworking a lot of the technology stack that powers Chip Shop. I'd like to tell you more about updates to the later.

Starting Physical Prototypes and Clearances

Starting Physical Prototypes and Clearances

Several updates in this post as I've grabbed a little time to spare here and there to add new cards and wanted to start creating some physical version of the game to start play-testing.

But first...

Clearances for products

I have always wanted to use real products, personalities and events in the game and this has meant getting legal clearance to do so, or at least attempting to.

Creating Accessories

Sorry for the lack of updates, I have been traveling with work the past few weeks. However, I have managed to find the time to start adding accessories to the product cards. Accessories are smaller products that can be attached to other products, even other players' products. They represent things like mice, keyboards and a plethora of others.

New Cards, the Berlin Computer Spiele Museum and representing Failure

Over the weekend thanks to Berlin Games Week I attended the Berlin Computer Spiele Museum for free. It was a small exhibition but great research for Chip Shop and the visit combined with several other events during the week inspired me to work on some of the product cards on Sunday.

Introduction to the Chip Shop Board Game

As I have just started this blog on BGDF, but have an archive of posts on my own blog, I thought I would start with an introductory video I made.
