Learning Self Promotion

As necessary as I think it is I still have a hard time promoting the games I make. It’s not that I don’t believe they are good games, I certainly do. It’s more a matter of how to go about it. I’m always happy to teach people one of my games which I think is the best advertising in the world. The problem with that is when I’m doing that I’m not designing the next great game. Demoing is time consuming.

PnP then Boxed

Minion Games is publishing my racing game Nitro dice, which is expected out late first quarter. In the mean time they have released it as a print and play for those that can’t wait, only have a few dollars, or love to construct large decks of cards themselves.

Contest Update

Sorry i should have posted this a week ago :(

The first round of judging for the Protospiel Card Game Design contest is complete with the following 10 advancing to the semi-finals.

Getting it done

One thing I have found is it takes most publishers more than a year to do the development on a game. Sometimes it takes much longer.

Eliminating the Compitition

It just dawned on me that im making hard on myself. One of the reasons that it is so hard to get published is there are more games being submitted to publishers than they can publish, allot more. I have a plan to help relieve some of the overload and increase my odds.

Spear of Seth starts to take shape

I’m working on doing a board game for the forthcoming book Spear of Seth (See: http://www.thothfantasyquests.com/books.html). It’s an adventurous tale in the vein of Jules Verne set in Egypt.

Because it would be next to impossible to represent the full story in any detail we have chosen to focus on only one part. What I see as the most adventures part, traveling through the underworld.

Nitro Dice Is Looking Nice

Dr Alias

Minion games is moving fast in getting Nitro Dice ready for publication next summer. Most everything is done at this point except for some of the art and layout. Here is one of the 6 racers.

Close call

The registration deadline for the Protospiel card design contest ended Friday and now I’m waiting for the first round submissions which are due by Oct 30th.

Just a week ago I was in pre-panic mode since we had less than half the expected designer register and it looked likely that we would have to cancel the contest.

It says in the Bible

Just a quick note: My old game Depth Charge has been included in the Games Bible published by Workman Publishing.

It says “plus newer favorites—Japanese Snow-Ball Fight, Six-Word Memoir, Iron Chef—and, from contributors like Will Shortz and 14 other game experts.”

I guess im an expert now   Well at least that is the spin.

Troubles with paradise

It’s been a long time since I posted to this blog but even longer since I self published anything, several years in fact.

I have been planning to publish Eden 1157B for more than a year now but development has been a bear and I don’t want to waste the time and money on a flawed product. Just when I thought I saw the light at the end of the tunnel I had it tested at Protospiel. Guess what happened. You don’t have to guess I’ll tell you but first you’ll have to understand the game a little.
