Hey guys,

A user called GamesPlayUkLtd spammed the forum today with the same message over and over. I deleted all of them except one which you can still find here: http://www.bgdf.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=22774#22774 . I doubt that any user has noticed anything, as I deleted them as soon as he psoted them.

Anyway, what happened:

I saw his first post (the original thread), debated deleting it, but in the end I decided to let it stay, because I thought it could elicit an interesting discussion. As you might remember Games Play UK was discussed earlier in this thread: http://www.bgdf.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1453&highli...

As you can see, most of us already find it to be a shady company.

Anyway, I decided to ask a question in his thread, to provoke some discussion. Literally one minute after posting my question I got a PM from him, saying that if I was interested I could visit their website for more information. Obviously, he was not interested in discussion, he was here to hook potential victims.. I mean clients.

I PMed him telling him that blatant advertising is not allowed on the BGDF and that he should answer any questions in his thread, otherwise there would be no reason for me to not close + delete the thread.

Then I saw him duplicating his posts in several other subforums and adding it to other existing threads. I deleted those and PMed and IMed him telling him to stop it. Eventually he did, and added he a reply to his original thread, although he never responded by PM or IM.

That's where we are now. What should we do with this guy? I already thought Games Play UK was a bit shady to begin with, and these events have just reaffirmed that. I'm thinking about issuing an official warning and telling BGDF users to avoid this company. What do you think?

I don't think an "official warning" is the right way to go just yet (it could lead to more spamming rather than less!) but I certainly think that pointing to related threads seems like a good idea.
I do think that leaving one of the messages behind was a good move though - especially given that you did correspond with him too.

Good job Rene. I think you handled it correctly.
