In case you're not interested in the story behind this, you can click here to skip all the blah blah blah. Otherwise, read on...

Greetings, salutations and all that jazz. My name's Chris, and I'm a writer and former video-game professional who recently created a card game... then found (much to my chagrin) that I had no one to test it with. Not content to continue playing alone, I decided instead to release it under a creative commons license and see if I could get some feedback.

Oddly enough, the game comes from a fantasy novel I'm writing. I've had the seed of the idea for years but never fully developed it. That is, until this past month when I was reorganizing my notes. Long story short, rather than getting real work done (ya know, writing the dang book), I designed the card game.

The game's called Gambit, and it's a non-collectible, player vs. player tactical card game. I happen to think it's a lot of fun, but I've been playing against myself. I somehow suspect that says something ill about my sanity, but I digress.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any and all feedback, and this forum seemed like a perfect place to start. Just pop on over to the not terribly awesome looking temporary Gambit site, download it and give it a shot.

Thanks for reading my ramblings. I'm off to poke around the rest of the forum now. :)

I read your rule book, and the concept sounds like Schotten Totten, it's like poker (collecting fullhouse-4 of a kind, etc) with a twist.

This is an important part in a rulebook : what the player can do in each turn ? Stack /face his cards then attack ?

With 3+ players, some players can gang up a player to eliminate him early ?

I spend a lot of time learning how to improve my rulebook-writing skill (there's a topic in here, you can search in BGDF), I'm sure your rulebook can be clearer and better.

input : please write the special effect (and special abilities) on the cards (instead of only see the star sign and check the rulebook). The less the player check the rulebook will makes the game easier. (it's okay even in small text remainder but it will help a lot, especially for a new player)

That's my 0.2 cent

Cheers!

Howdy all,
this - is - fantastic!
admitedly the rules arent present on the cards, and thus you do have to read the rulebook once or twice; and i have, and i like what i see!
its got a very clever feel to it; using symbols to play the game, add in positions and elements and its got alot of variety and a great feel.

a few things though; the rulebook could use some work done on it, with a well placed out summary page; because untill you know it well i think your going to need a summary sheet or something of that effect.
if you just organise the rulebook / structure it a bit you wont have a problem there.

i know i said i like the ''symbol'' game style, but having the cards name at the top/whever would be better, and i guess the card designs are draft/prototypes, but i can see a finished version of this looking and playing really well.

summary: Kudos! i like this alot, and will be giving it a shot at the next games night.
