A few things I miss from the old site-

The quick links to new posts (used to be at bottom right)... I don't see them anywhere now :(

Also, the 'improved' listing for the journal entries... I liked the old listing much better. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'd rather browse through entries by topic than by person. Also, if I want to look up a journal I saw, say on a Tennis Card Game, I now have to look at several journals until I find the one that entry is in (in case I forgert or don't notice it's DonB's).

Finally, I don't see any difference in the editing of journal entries. Also, you still cannot edit comments to Journal Entries (you can only edit the original entries themselves).

Does anyone agree that these would be nice features to have/have back? Can they be implemented?

I completely agree with sedjtroll. I miss the ability to quickly connect to the site and see if anyone has posted a new message. Now, I have to go to each forum and check individually.

Also, I don't like the listing of journal entries by person. I don't look at the journals much anyway, but when I do, it's to see what kinds of games people are working on; not to see what games individual people are working on. Moreover, since there isn't a "last updated" flag on the Journals page, I now have to go an extra step even if I already know whose journals I want to see. Not, in my opinion, a change for the better.

I've also found that some of my posts have failed to appear on the site, or have crashed while posting, (which had the same effect, since when I clicked "back", they were gone). This kind of stuff is devastating, and, to be honest, will keep me from posting to the site in the future if it keeps happening. As you know, I'm long winded, and it's not worth it to me to write a long post if there's only a 60% or so chance it's going to end up on the site. I'll try to document this phenomena more accurately if it keeps happening.

The summary of forum discussions is broken, which is the only reason it's not there. I'm working on tracking down the bug.

I'll leave the journal stuff to Darke.

On the posting problem, though, this is the first I've heard of it. What happens? Do you receive an actual error? Any additional information would be good.

Thanks,
Matthew

Posting crashes

Jeff,

Have you had problems with the forums lately? I think the WYSIWYG editor was causing problems with some peoples posts so I have removed it. If you haven't experienced any problems in the last three days or so, then it may be safe to assume the problem is fixed. If this is not the case, by all means let me know so I can try and isolate the problem.

I just got "Invalid Session" when trying to post something in the GWD forum. After refreshing the page a few times or perhaps after "previewing" the post I was finally able to post the message.

At least my post was still there when I clicked "back". 8O

While we try to fix the problem, I suggest doing what I do on all messageboards I post to... when the post is complete and you're ready to submit, first hit Control-A (Select All) and Control-C (Copy). Then if it blows (which I've had happen on many messageboards, unfortunately) it's just a matter of pasting it back in again.

The latest forum posts are back, with the last user posting.

Journal Change

While it doesn't solve everyone's issues with the new journal format, I did manage to make a quick modification, adding a "Last Modified" column so you can at least get a sense of how new that user's latest entry is.

Old Journals Back

Through a cooperative effort the old-style journal pages are back, but with the correct date-sorting order. :)

Great, it looks really nice now.

Does anyone use the "Send this journal to a friend" option though? From my perspective it's useless and I wouldn't even want people sending my journal(s) to non-registered people.

I just noticed that earlier and feel absolutely the same way. I'll eliminate it if that's the consensus/decision.

While you're in there

Getting your hands dirty... How about adding a button to access your personal journals from that main page.. Also an add new entry button would be nice too...

Done and done.

I also reformatted the list a bit to make it more clear. In the process I deleted the time portion of the Modified column -- imo they're really not updated often enough to make it worth the clutter. If y'all would like the time back, though, please feel free to say so.

Someone else nicely eliminated the Send Journal buttons. :)

Nicely done FL. I think we can safely say that section is done for now.
