This is a suggestion.
What about a forum for the game design contests ? This one will probably a low traffic one, but if we post all the contests that we can dig from around the world, that a chance for one of us to be published.

We can post discussions, results, and rules. Hopefully, certain of these contest organizers can make annoncements of their contest.

BGDF is growing and having some consideration from some key player in the industry is always welcome.

So what do you think.

Got that covered in the upcoming wiki. I know, I know. You've heard about it before, but seriously, once the holidays pass we're going to hit this thing head on.

Wikis are fine for a repository of knowledge but they are not really made for discussion. We can still post announcements in the forum of new contests so people know what has been added to the Wiki, or is there a notification system of some sort to show new content?

To anounce a competition, you could use the "submit news"-link in the menu on the left. Give it a title and select the cathegory "design competiotions", post a link to the competition webpage, and to the thread in the forums on bgdf.com to discus the competition further...

I never submitted news, so I don't know if anyone (any member!) can submit news. But as it is there, it probably has only to be read and aproved by an administrator. It should then be displayed on the homepage of BGDF, so everybody can easily notice...

Could work, I suppose. If too many design-threads begin cluttering the forums, they'll surely get their own forum.

Cheese!

Having play with Wiki, forum and blogs recently, I'm not sure the wiki is the best place for announcing contests.

The forum can present the new entries and requests.
The wiki can have the rules, past winners and such things.
I would feel uncofortable to post on the forum news for new contests as this is a game design forum and not a contests listing. The contests are just something else supporting our cause.

We we move to the new Tiki wiki format, we will have news articles to announce the contest, but we will also have a wiki page that lists all of the current contests with more indepth information. The whole point of the wiki is to keep things organized and not scattered over so many different places like it is now. The overall objective will be to have news and forum posts point to content on the wiki. Also Tiki Wiki has a search feature that allows you to search the ENTIRE site (wiki, downloads, forums, news, blogs) with one search box.

Just an FYI.
