Good Morning,

I would like to share something with you all. During church service our First Lady (Pastor's Wife) read aloud a bulletin From Jacksonville Florida.

A deputy from that area was in a case where 8 citizens of JacksonVille were diagnosed with the HIV VIRUS. How you say, And like that is common right. Not by what you have heard. Some one in the area have been putting HIV NEEDLES, (SURINGES) in the underbelly of the gasoline handles. The victims would be struck in any area of their hands. Please be aware of your surroundings at all Gas Stations. Please use a paper towel or cloth or anything you might find at the local gas station and wipe off the handles from any abnormal objects. Then wash your hands.

When I say sadly, it's because I think it's sad, that people who have substantial influence over others, deciminate false information without even making an effort to validate that information. To me this lessens their credibility.

Well, OK, then that is pretty sad.

But, on a different note, Happily the good citizens of Jacksonville Florida are free to keep pumping gas with AIDS-needle-less abandon, insuring that the the pillaging and polluting anachronistic Big Oil industry remains good and healthy and exorbitantly profitable, at least until the REAL wars start....

No wait, that's sad too.

Oh and by the way, I have nothing against the good citizens of Jacksonville... It's the bad ones that really rub me the wrong way. LOL.

hmm.

Okay group.

I wasn't making fun of anyone nor have any grudge on our fair citizens of florida. I didn't get the source. Our church lady got it from wherever she gets the source. I was just trying to be nice to warn everyone. I wasn't expecting to get a responce like this. If i made a mistake then I am sorry. All she said was Jacksonville Florida. Sorry I will not post anything up again to warn any one. I appolgize but you guys and girls don't need to put me down on something I was just trying to help.
Sorry I won't post here or any other section ever again I will just read for information. And I will not goto Spiel chat either.

Hey bulldog, no need to get upset. Just count to 10 and then read this thread again. No one was making fun of you. It's a hoax and you (and your church lady) were fooled. That's okay. I didn't know it was a hoax either, until Darkehorse pointed it out. The problem is with the people who come up with fake "news" like this. That is sad.

I agree with zaiga... I didn't see anyone making fun of you. I think the disappointment at having been fooled a bit may be coloring your reading of people's comments.

I was commonly fooled by this kind of stuff, too, until I found Snopes and began to learn about the ton of completely untrue but very convincing hoaxes that get passed around the net. Now I'm just a lot more skeptical and usually check Snopes any time I read something like that.

Understandable.

i tried to post something and it wouldn't do it here so let me try it again.
I checked out the website dralius sent up on the topic. I read it and yeah that is what she said. So i will let her know it was a hoax. Once again I apologize for any misleading information I thought i was helping out. Plus I still don't get where she is getting her information.

She probably took it from Snopes, where they actually explain how they prove it's a hoax in this article:

I highly recommend Snopes for looking up things like that -- they actually explain their research and often provide additional backup links (like this article does, pointing to a Jacksonville newspaper article the officially debunks the hoax.

BTW, I now wear gloves when pumping gas....

Actually, I can't even AFFORD gas anymore, so it's not an issue.
