I'm working on a gladiator game where you train your gladiators. The following things can be developed.

Endurance
Speed
Power
Reflexes

I need help coming up with a group word for these things. I'm looking to fill in the blank. The following _______ can be developed.

I'm not sure if they would be considered skills?

Thanks
JR

Guys, thanks for the input. Those are the kind of words I'm looking for. Here is the section that explains how to use training during combat.

I'm trying to fill in the blank with a cool word.

--Using training in combat

The four training boxes below the gladiator represent different _____ that the gladiator has developed. Each ______ can be utilized once during combat. Once a _____ has been used, mark it by placing a cube on the appropriate box. A gladiator can only use a number of _______ equal to his training stat. A gladiator can use a max of three _______ during combat. If a gladiator has a training stat greater than three it is only beneficial when fighting animals.

Currently I've been using the word "Action", but I don't know if that works.

Thanks,
JR

"Abilities"

I think "skill" implies some kind of mental or behavioral learning, as opposed to physical development.

Aptitude? Talent? Quality? Feature? "Attribute" or "Ability" is probably best.

I agree, what about "training essentials"?

"Attribute" strikes me as being the most appropriate term here - it's the one mostly used in role-playing games for character statistics that can (usually) be developed over time.

I agree with those that suggest "Attribute(s)". It is very common as Scurra suggested in the RPG world, though "Trait(s)" is used also, but not as commong as "Attribute(s)".

Beyond those two, and maybe "Abilities", using anything else would require you to work hard at describing the _________, to your players. Though using something different will also allow you to attempt to *break the mold* in the case that you dont want your game to start sounding like an RPG style game.

It also depends of the mechanics of your game. Do you want each skill/ability to have a value associated to it representing the level of the skill or ability. Or you only want to indicate if he has the skill or not. For example "short sword", character has the skill so he can now use short sword, but there is no value representing how good he is using the short sword. Maybe the "dexterity" would represent how good he is with a short sword.

The skill/ability is training, and the value I'm tring to represent is the amout of training the gladiator has. The more training he has, the more training (endurance, power, speed, and reflexes) he can utilize during combat.

I like the sound of Abilities, but I don't know if people would consider endurance and power as training abilities.

Thanks again for everyones help.

This is true, I want the description to be intuitive. The RPG element is very lite in the game, but I would hope that there is enough to keep the RPG player interested.
