Well, I'm not too well versed in the names of the genres. But I'm currently into Escaflowne and I liked Evangelion (maybe Mecha?). I also like things like Ranma and Trigun. As for movies the wings of Honneamise, Ghost in the Shell and Spirited Away are a couple of my favourites.
But why do you ask? Mostly I don't answer posts poised in the imperative. This is an exception, because I'm a big anime fan and like to talk about it. So my two cents are probably something like this: if you want people to answer your question, explain why you're asking.

this is off topic. who cares what or why? that's the entire point of off topic.
by the way mine are the "old" classics from the late 80's early 90's... akira, anything by shirow masamune, battle angel, anything by miazaki...
basically.... "the good stuff"...
of course i've been out of the loop of the most recent (last ten years) massive influx of anime into the states ... both the good and the bad... i know there is a whole lot of good stuff out there i have not been keeping up with... it kills me but i only have time and money for about ....oh... ten hobbies at once.... :wink: and i just can't afford the time nor money to keep up....
i must say though that "netflix.com" is helping me rectify this...
my first love is manga and the animation is simply icing... but it's oh so tasty...
