My wife and I celebrated our 11th anniversary this past weekend, so we took a trip up to one of our favorite spots on earth -- Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior (you drive through Castle Danger, MN, along the way ;-D).

She completely surprised me when we exchanged gifts, because she got me Settlers of Catan Card Game ... and we spent about 3 hours that evening playing the game. (No smart comments about how we *should* have spent those 3 hours!!)

From watching her play, I think she may be hooked (and I'm probably in trouble) ... we'll see how it goes.

Congrats! 11 Years is a milestone, especially in this day and age! The fact that your wife gave you a board game is icing on the cake! Lucky dog.

Congrats on the 11 years! We just celebrated our 1st in June and hopefully we'll see our 11th and more!

Congratulations on having your 11th and having a great wife to make it worthwhile.

You are a luck man but not as lucky as me. I just rolled three 6’s; do you know the odds of that? And it happens to me all the time.

Congratulations Bryk!

On a related note, up until a few months ago, my wife HATED German games. (I wasn't really into them when we first got married.) She thought they looked incredibly boring, and was intimidated by what she thought were the ridiculous levels of strategic thinking. "Games are meant to be fun," she'd say, "not give you headaches!"

Then, a few weeks ago, I begged her to learn Settlers of Catan. After much urging she reluctantly agreed.

To make a long story short, she *loves* it. She never thought it would be so much fun.

Then, about a week ago, I persuaded her to learn San Juan. Again, she with a little less reluctance, she agreed.

She *loves* San Juan too!

Now, my wife and I have been playing a lot of these two games lately.

The COOLEST part of this story is how much better our relationship has been lately. We've cut back considerably on our TV time, and now play games together instead. As a result, we talk a lot more, share a lot more, and just have a lot more fun together.

I've always loved how boardgames were great for promoting social interaction, but I never thought they'd bless my marriage as much as they have.

Ahh, my friend you're blessed more than others. My family likes games, but they are the type of people who play a game once a month (well I mean a game that I enjoy, they play LIFE all the time lol). I have about 25 board games and we've played maybe 1 or 2 games this month. I've tried setting up a family game night but everyone just thinks it's bogus.

Help!!!

P.S. If you want to know what kinds of games I am trying to get them to play, they are mostly German games (Citadels to be an example).
