It's not like BSW, where you play in real time, it's more leisurely. You make your move, and then you can either wait for a email indicating your turn is up again, or you can hastlily keep checking every 15 minutes or so. The term for this is "play by web," since all moves are shown and played in an html file through your browser. As opposed to "play by email," which normally just gives you a moves list of what the other players have done, and then you have to chart that data out yourself.

It's essentially a pretty, streamlined version of playing by mail. In a lot of ways, I prefer it to BSW, since I don't need to block out XXX amount of time to play a game (of which I really have none right now). Instead, you just kind of take your turn whenever you've got a free moment or two.

There are a few other "play by web" sites out there, some of which have been listed on this site before (primary language in paranthesis), in various levels of nicely done interfaces and game selections:

Spielbyweb.com (English)
Boiteajeux.net (French)
Ludagora.net (French)
YouPlay.it (Italian)
MabiWeb.com (English)

If you pop along to visit it you will see the games (5 or so?) available to play there.

They are free, turn-based emulations of boardgames. Free to sign up, and you can create your own games or join others. You can put passwords on games so you can play with people you invite, or you can have your games open so anyone can join.

You receive (do you have to set it, I can't remember?) emails when it is your turn - you login and make your move.

You should be able to select any current game to have a look at it in progress.

There are quite a few of us here who play games there, so if you want to start a game, just create one, with a password, and invite people to join!

Do u have the gaming board as an interface?
I would prefer a real time system like BSW.
The reason im interested is that i would like to play Wallenstein.
But it could take forever if its not realtime i guess.

I would like to see a game in progress but i dont know how!

Thanks
Johan

If you go along to this Wallenstein game you will be able to see people ganging up on, well, everybody else...

From my short experience, a game usually takes several days, even a week or so. And newbies like me are crushed in the process. ;-)

You, of all people! I still have nightmares where your purple markers surround me and choke me! ;-P

Nah, just kidding. I've been a bit bussy lately (specially because I took an extra vacation), but I'll return to spielbyweb as soon as I find a slot in my hectic agenda. I want to give Amun-Re a try, and since I gave up the idea of buying Wallenstein in favour of a couple games from fellow BGDFers, I'm eager to play it by web. So probably by next week I'll be joining any game in need of players, or start one myself.

They were just coming to welcome you to the neighbourhood and give you a gift of a few barrels of sauerkraut. Not my fault you panicked and we had to cull your rampaging troops before they knocked over our picnic tables!

Good stuff, start a game when you are ready and I will be in!
