What about words that appear on cards? Do they count toward the 800 word limit? Like, the rule book says, "Play a card, do what it says." And the card says, "Play this card face-up in front of you if you have visited between 5 and 10 islands this turn and have found at least 3 green pieces. Choose a player who has more pieces than you do. Punch him. Then take all of his pieces and call him a bad name. Return this card to the deck and shuffle the deck. Then order a pizza."

How many words would that count as?

Whoops. Didn't mean to start a new topic. Sorry.

I would say that that doesn't count towards the limit, unless you included all of that text in the description of your game.

The limit is not in regards to how much text is contained in the final polished version of your game, it is in regards to your description, which is essentially an overview of the game. Specific text on gamecards probably doesn't warrant being included in the description, unless it's crucial to the understanding of the game as a whole.

You could probably sum up your deck of cards by saying "When a card is played, the instructions on the card are followed and the played card is discarded. Typical effects of gamecards include players getting free items, bonus moves, stealing items from other players, and other such benefits and penalties."

This way you summarize without chipping too much into your limit.... and my sample summary was probably wordier than it needed to be anyway.

OL did a nice job of summing up ... ;-)

Words on a card example won't be counted. However, a diagram with descriptions, in most cases, will. I'd hate for someone to think they'd be able to get around the limit by linking to 3 images of additional descriptive text. ;-D

But, in your example, even a wordy card, given as an example of what might be on a card, would not count toward the word count.
