Hey ya'll,

I am finishing off the design for a cardgame and I am wanting to get my rules in a nice, easy to understand and learn, concise layout.

Can anybody point me in the direction of examples of nice rules for cardgames? Not CCG's, but higher in compexity than Snap.

As I am not a big cardgame player, I want to cehck out some examples of lingo and styles of expressing gameplay etc...

Cheers!

I'd suggest picking up a Hoyle's guide to card games. You'll see dozens upon dozens of games explained in detail. With a game using customized card designs, you will undoubtedly need pictures of your cards and a section on the anatomy of the card that Hoyle's does not require.

Based on a post in another thread by an administrator, I'm not certain that posts on card games are even on topic here any more. I'm waiting for feedback from the administrators.

I couple of online playing card game rules can be found at :

What post are you talking about? Has there been some large change in what content is acceptable?

Card game rules... try John McLeod's card game site for lots of examples of rules written out for the web. Whether things work exactly the same printed is another issue.

In a word, no. We are having an internal discussion about the extent to which CCGs are on-topic at BGDF. I'm sure we'll disclose the outcome of our discussions soon, once we have reached a consensus. I think Lee is overreacting a bit.

I think Lee adds a lot of value to the site, even if he doesn't own it, and the same is true for many other commenters here.

I know the administrators and especially Darke do a lot of work to keep this place running, but it's a shame the discussion about what we can talk about here is closed away. I hope we'll hear or be asked for our thoughts soon.

And sorry to derail your thread, Nest. I've found this book about card games to be excellent. Each game gets one or two pages with an overview and a clear explanation, as well as some interesting history.

Cheers guys, some great links here, i'll browse through them at work tomorrow ;)

As well as these, has anyone got any card games in particular that they have come across, read the rules and thought 'Wow! They be a darn good rulebook there!' (or thoughts to that effect ;)

Not sure if there's any trouble with card games, but I would say that this thread belongs more to game production than game design.
