How does the idea of A "pocket Kingdom" appeal to you ? would you carry it your kingdom around? ready for battle against other kingdoms? Or would you even want to join forces with another neighbouring kingdom and go on quests?

Im really thinking where this could go. And wheter I should make this a small game. (in size I will ) or wheter to make it something more special. I have loads of ideas, but cant seem to pick the nice things out of it yet. ........

Maybe I should make a few smaller game sinstead :)

In the mean time I have been working on a game called streetwars. I need to make the playtest version of this. Basically its a small wargame in which there can be different victory conditions. EG. capture the bar or something like that. THe board is different eachtime. And features a city terrain. Pedestrians will be placed on this board , and each player starts with 3 character on his HOME TURF. The pedestrians are neutral. The chararcters in the home turf of a player are identified, by laying down an IDENTITY CARD. Players can take control of neutral pedestrians, by influencing them to join their side of the battle , they can then play an ID card on them. EG. the CHinese Cook, with Big BAseball Bat walks up to the pedestrian, sees that its his neighbour, an ALien From OUter Space. He joins the battle .

etc. etc.

More to come soon. Let me know what you think

Well the Pocket Kingdoms game was originally intended, as to be a TIle-laying wargame. Soon the idea of customizing your own WHOLE kingdom and take it out on others really appealed to me. And thought this might be a nice mechanic to work this out. It did change the original plans quite alot though. Now Im thinking alot about what features cartain types of kingdoms have. And wheter to include monsters that roam the land. Dragons that guard hoards. Witches that live in huts in the forest. etc. etc. Princesses that need saving. Maybe the object of the game will change from more of a wargame into something like Your kingdom will needs FAME to win. Fame is gained by the stories and quests that the subjects of your kingdom undergo. Ofcourse you can make the quests and FAME that your opponent tries to gain more difficult to achieve. Maybe I can even incorporate bith though that might be too much for short plays.

As for streetwars. I need to make the the board parts. But I dont have a lot of time lately. After that I need to make the cards and then some chits to play test. Gotta find me some friends to help me out :)

okay.

see you

I was thinking about this pocket kingdoms for a while, and it would be nice if It was really portable so not a lot of especially different parts should be included. I rea;lly like those zip-bags. I dunno what they are called. Carrying your kingdom around in your pouch.
I also think it should be possible to make the whole game on tiles. though different size tiles might be needed if I go for the more fairytale-like version of going on quests etc. for the wargame version I see no reason why. I dont see a reason why not to use armies as big as the rest of the land tiles and building tiles.

I could make ofcourse the same game, in two versions. the components that can be taken out of the BIG 2 HOUR evening game (whole version, fairytiles) of which parts you COULD make a pocket kingdom and take with you to do a small wargame like battle between your kingdom and your opponents.

This is actually a nice Idea I like it. Are there already games around of which you can take some parts, out of the "campaign/whole game" to bring with you and do a small "in between game" ?

So but basically this can be done I guess. Problem now is, I want to use roads, but I have a lot of problems with the mechanics of using roads. I would like players to make the board as they play, but I the problem with roads means... lots of extra tiles to be included, and there might come some situations in the game where no one can play a landtile anymore.

I havent played any Tile based game, and dont have the money to spend on games right now either so I dont have a lot of experience with this. If anyone here knows of a good way to lay down tiles while playing, without getting into situation s where there exists a place on the board where no tiles can be played then let me know. :) ( I wish I could make better sentences ...this must be confusing :)

Okay... off to the drawingtable.

It sounds a lot like Carcassonne. It is also a tile-laying game and you might want to take a look at it. It

Carcassonne is an excellent model for the kinds of tiles you can create and the ways they affect each other.

WEll yeah I have been hunting down some carcassonne pics, on the web, and I think I get the idea. I think this already helped me picture some parts of the game. And because of that some mechanics.

one problem I still see though with this game, is that if I would play some tiles and expland my kingdom, how can I be sure my opponent and me will work towards eachoter. I was thinking about using something like settlers of catan: cities and Knights. Where you put the land tiles in some sort of frame.
Now a part of the victory condition could be that a player needs to control a certain amount of tiles. This amount must be big enough for the players to be necessary for them to meet and battle.

though I would like the amount of freedom you would have when using no such thing as a frame.... but maybe that is too much to ask :)
