Taking a Football Card Party to a higher level.

Last night I was invited to a Football Card Party.
There were 4 teams of four. Each team had 4 members.
Each team had a home table. There were sixteen rounds.
Each round 2 players would stay home and defend their
home table. Each home table had pile of flags in their color.
The 2 other players would visit an opponents table.
If a visiting team won they would take a flag back to their home base.
If a home team defended nothing would happen.
The card game itself is basically Spades with a different trump
each round. No bidding. Just whoever had the most tricks won.
At the end of the night the 2 teams with the most flags played in a
Superbowl round. The winner of that of course was the champions.

Our team won and overall it was fun but really more in a social way.
Not much depth.

So my question to everyone has anyone played a multitable, card game
with teams that has more depth or strategy to it?

Or how about brainstorming some ideas that would be interesting.

At the same time the game couldn't be too hard.

I'm imagining each table having a special ability/ advantage. That type of thing.

Any thoughts?

See Duplicate Bridge.

I don't see why that format couldn't be used for any game that can be played '2 on 2'. You could even use Settlers of Catan or Puerto Rico! Or any other 4 player game with a team variant- which could be as simple as saying 'a team's score is the total of the scores of it's individual players' or 'a team's score is the lowest of the individual players."

hmm that duplicate bridge seems complicated.
I was thinking of some kind of game that might not
even involve cards or other games made to fit the format.
More of a unique game for that environment.

Say teams represent 4 lands. Each land has a special ability or bonus.
Adjustments in strategy culd have to be made in between rounds.
I guess almost like a CCG where people use sideboards.

I meant that duplicate bridge has that structure. Teams of 4 people (2 pairs)- one pair (East-West) moves from table to table each round, the other pair (North-South) stays at the same tale. This way you play all the other teams and you all play the same boards (pre-dealt hands, every table that plays a board will have the same hands at each player... if that makes sense. In other words board 13 is pre dealt, when playing board 13 as the East player, you will have the same hand as everyone else who's played board 13 and sat in the East position.)
