is this message board open to discussion of tabletop sirshk games (such as those similar in scope to the heroclix style of game)? These aren't strictly boardgames of course.

Although collectable, I do consider Heroclix and Mageknight and the other games as board games or in the same league. They are probably in a different market than regular boardgames, but there are people that play both (I'm included in that, although I haven't played Mageknight in forever and sold all of my Heroclix.)

Personally, after wasting a lot of money on CCG's and collectable mini's, I am a little tired of the collectable market. I think on the whole that happens a lot, that a player plays and buys for a while and then quits. Usually, a new player takes the old players place, as what has happened in Magic (which I spent a lot of money on too in the past.)

So I would prefer to play and make games that are customizable, but do not have to be added to forever to make the product sold.

(I still think that Mageknight was and still is a revolution product, just as was Magic. I think that someone else will make a collectable product that's just as addictive and fun (and not targeted completely for 6 year olds) but completely different from Magic and Mageknight.)

I've never gotten into Collectable type games for that very reason... although i have been ever so tempted many times with all those beautiful little orcs and wizzies! The think the thing about those games is that they ARE addictive and people DO spend outrageous amounts of money on the things - and have tonnes of fun at it! It is a game-maker's dream though, isn't it? A game where people get an insatiable thirst for more and more of your products, continuously buying more little dudes and more expansion packs and more modules! May we all have game customers so dedicated and so willing to open their wallets to us! *grin*
