Hello,
I have developed a set of rules and approximately 35% of the cards needed for a new Science Fiction Spaceship battle CCG (Customizable Card Game). I thought I had a great idea using something completely out of my imagination and therefore not linked to any show or series. However, I just discovered that there exists a game called "Flagship" that is eriely close to my idea. I believe that my game does have some greater depth of play and the card design is better. However, Flagship is going out of production due to lack of sales?
I thought about switching modes to a sea/naval combat idea. The card look would be the same and the rules would remain, I would just need new artwork. Then I discovered that 7Th Seas CCG existed and died also. My game would be very different from how this played.
So, my concern is should I abandon my idea? Or does anyone have any ideas where I could translate the game to a different theme that ship-to-ship style combat could relate (example going from starships to naval ships)? I hate to lose what I have been working on.
Give me your input.
Thanks
Jesterhawk
PS-
I have also created a Christian Card Game that my website has information on. It is good, just needs funding, if this genre turns your crank you are more then welcome to email me and we can chat about my attempts to get it produced.
Dont be put off by other games with similar themes/rules. Its your creation, and if it plays well it should attract interest. A game about spaceship combat should be fairly easy to transplant to a similar theme. How about fighting mechs? Or souped up death cars? Or street fighters? Its amazing how you can fit a theme around a set of rules.
So dont be discouraged. Keep on going and make the game that you want to play.
