Does anyone here know the fate of About.com's 5th annual game design contest?
This year's theme: Deduction.
About.com Board/Card Games is sponsoring our Fifth Annual Game Design competition, this year with the theme of Deduction.

Hey Mitch,
I've been pinging Erik Arneson on and off about this. Last month, he said he hoped to have the results by "early August," but that ultimately the judges' would finish whenever they finished and there wasn't much he could do about it.
Erik started a forum post over at about.com regarding the contest. I used the thread to ask him about the status, and he replied within 1 day. You might want to saunter over and ping him yourself for more up-to-the-minute info.

Off topic: I was looking around About.com yesterday and noticed BGDF does not appear to be there as a link for game designers. Anything that can be done about that?

Thanks, Mark.
About.com is worse than a MegaMall! I spent ten minutes trying to find the forums. Somebody (possibly me, way back when?) is registered as challengers, so I took cha - eleven - engers. Nobody messes with the challengers! ;)
Now, I took a break from trying to find the contest posting...
If you get this before I go insane, kindly point to it for me, please?
Thanks!
Mitch
P.S. Never Mind. At 12:45 am, I found it

Thanks, Mark.

After I posted I realized that I should've given the URL. I could barely find it the first few times I visited.
http://boardgames.about.com/mpboards.htm
You should be able to get into them from there.
Once you're in, you want to look for the "Designing Games (Inventors)" folder. It should be the topmost thread in there "2005 About.com Game Design Competition".
These direction may still not be enough, as I think the organization of the folders may differ depending on which threads you have visited previously. If that's the case and you still can't find it, let me know.
Mark
Heh,
We posted 2 minutes apart. (Is it 2 hours earlier in Texas than Virginia?)
With my dial-up, I sometimes hit "Reply" or "Submit" before waiting for everything to refresh.
As for the contest, the suspense is killing me! Early August, indeed.
Mitch
If the Admins could reply to this post with a link to an "about BGDF" post, or just a brief statement that would be representative of this site, then the next person who see this can post it on the About.com forum.
I would just go ahead and do it, but I don't know if the Admins have a standard practice for this sort of thing.
Please do feel free to submit it. It would be great!
-- Matthew
We don't have a standard "about BGDF" thing. I guess what is says on the home page, "Think of this site as a support group for game designers, both professional and aspiring," works fine.
Please do feel free to submit it. It would be great!
-- Matthew
It's done.

Here's the latest from Erik at About.com:
Thanks for the note. Yes -- the finalists are now set. An announcement will be made this week. I'm currently formatting all of the games so they will be posted to this web site and available for people to play when the announcement is made.
I apologize to all for the lengthy delay. There are reasons for it, but they're not important.
Even if I am unable to finish formatting the games in time, I'll make the announcement of the finalists no later than Friday.
Good luck to everyone!
K.
Eek!
I can't wait to see the finalists.
(and of course, I hope I'm one of them!)
Bit of copy and pasting from another thread:
From:
http://forums.about.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?nav=messages&tsn=8&tid=5435&web...
"I hope to finish the coding and post all of the finalists tomorrow morning, but as promised -- with about 55 minutes to spare here on the east coast -- here's the list of finalists in the 2005 About.com Deduction Game Design Competition:
Coup D'Etat, designed by Scott DeMers
Decipher, designed by Zach and Amanda Greenvoss
Depth Charge, designed by David E. Whitcher
Don-Cha, designed by Mike Petty
Double Blind, designed by Bruce Glassco
Forsooth, designed by Mitchell H. Allen
Green Pipe, designed by Felix Lee
Hexagonal Black Box, designed by Eric W. Solomon
Hide and Guess, designed by Heinrich Glumpler
Jewels in the Sand, designed by Stanley E. Anderson
Liar!, designed by René Wiersma
Robot Maze Race, designed by Tim Mayse-Lillig
Cheers,
Erik"
I see that Challengers (Mitch H. Allen) and yours truly are in the list. Any other lucky BGDF souls that made the final twelve?
I also recognize David Whitcher (dralius), Mike Petty and Tim Mayse-Lillig; congratulations to everyone!
I was pretty casual when the contest went on and on just telling every one to relax and they would get around to it. Now that I am on the finalist list the suspense is killing me and I only found out about it a few hours ago. I hope they can wrap it us soon!
Congratulations to the finalists. I'm looking forward to trying some of these games!
Scott DeMers is a member, too! He and I came up with similar themes, imagine that!
Congratulations to all finalists!
Mitch

There is a process described deep within the About.com website (http://boardgames.about.com/mpremail.htm), which states:
A. Posting a note in the About Board Games Forum (in the "Introductions" folder) is preferred. You can also send an email to boardgames.guide@about.com. In either case, be sure to include the URL, along with a brief description of the site. I'll take a look and consider adding it.
