Augmantors play test

Augmentors play testing went great! We had 6 kids play test it, ages 6-14. They all had a good time learning it and placing their augments.
I had power-ups in the game that would upgrade “augment” the armor or weapons until the power-up or item was destroyed. I am going to change them to only last for one round of offense and defense.
Global cards worked excellently.
I also found out that 6yr olds can’t read very well, this was overcome by his father who only read the cards to him and offered no strategy. The 6 year old won every game he played, and was recognizing the card combos he liked by the picture on them.
Everyone had the same deck of 60 cards.
It became evident early that I had two horrible cards. One was “change hands with opponent” the other was “steal a placed augment and place it as your own”. No kid likes their deck messed with, I can tell you that. We as parents found it tedious as well. After each match we would search through the decks to get the other players cards out. Lesson learned there.
The first match seemed as if I had too many heal cards in the deck; no one could gain a lead due to them. I think this happened from poor shuffling, once they were done with healing it became an intense battle of who get their armor and weapons out and use them faster.
The game play can be very fast and smooth. I think this is due to how specific the cards are. The only time I got questions, was from the older kids trying to “read” more into the cards and not taking them at face value.
My friend, a vast and useless warehouse of information, was very impressed with the game. We are going to make a 2000 card series and whittle it down from there. His wife made a good suggestion that I should have taught him the game first so he wouldn’t be learning it as the kids played it. That was he could have refereed the older kids while they played.
I tried to make the cards unique but there are so many CCG’s out there that it was hard to do. I don’t know if I should worry about that or not, but I do. I am thinking about printing on thin acrylic sheets. I am also thinking that the game can support any type of character. Space robot to knight, as long as the decks are equalized I don’t see a problem with that. I think that idea would make the game more appealing to what kids are in to.
All in all it was a very satisfying experience. All the kids got to keep their decks. They call my kids wanting to know when they are coming over to play.

wow thats a lot of babble-sorry =)
