Hi,

The on-line play-test demo is coming along quite nicely. It knows the basic rules, keeps track of action points, guides movements, etc.

Check it out at:

Still to do:
-----------------------------------
Remove pieces once captured
Keep score
Build AI or Make network version

Cheers,

Looks really good. Is there a way of endding your go without using up all your movement points?

Thx for checking it out.

p.s. Just updated it again. Now it is taking captured pieces off the board and has a basic knowledge of ranks etc. (althogh not perfect yet)

Hi,

The on-line game now has a complete understanding of Swarms basic rule-set.

The stumbling block (for the past two weeks) has been to implement the multiple piece encirclement rule - which as it turns out - is quite complex to get a computer to understand.
The demo is still @ the same place:

Next on the agenda is to create some kind of multi-player gaming environment...

Will keep you posted.

One thing I have noticed with this game is that it is quite easy to reach a stalemate. As an opening move the red player can position their drones with the aid of the impassable cells so the blue player cannot get their peices past.

This leads to neither side being able to surround the other if both sides are playing safe.

Thanks for the feedback. That is not really the case though, because you can move your oponnents pieces as well as your own.

So actualy a stalemate is not possible due to movement.

But, you are not the first to say that whcih makes me realise that I need to make it a lot clearer in the rules that you can move your oponnents pieces.

It would be great if you could try playing the game again with this in mind and see what you think....

Note: Click on any piece to see what you can do with it and what it's action point cost is.

Cheers,
JV :)

Of course, that makes a huge difference.

The fact that you can surround an opponent using their own peices is really interesting. It means bunching your peices up to surround a peice leaves those peices vunerable to being captured themselves.
