Hi everyone...

After a couple of years of scraping playtests together by annoying my various gaming groups to try my game, I've decided to damn the torpedoes and try to get together a monthly playtest group in New York City.

This group would ideally meet every second Saturday of the month - so I'd like to set the first meeting on May 8. Of course, the date is open to change.

I haven't figured out a good location yet - I'd like it to be some sort of public place in Manhattan, near some kind of safe, easy parking (like a garage), and within realistic distance of a subway stop. I'd also prefer there to be no entry fee (as I understand it, Neutral Ground charges admission). Of course, it shouldn't be so loud that we can't hear ourselves speak (I understand Neutral Ground tends to be pretty loud), or so quiet that we all must whisper (which would eliminate libraries, and make Barnes & Noble difficult).

There's a GREAT game store in Brooklyn that would be perfect (Kings Games), but there's no garage there, and my car got broken into the first (and last, and only) time I drove there.

That would probably leave The Compleat Strategist on 33rd Street as the prime canditate... if they have open gaming tables, which I'd imagine they do.

If you are a gamer within driving or subway distance of Manhattan, then let me know if you'd be interested in joining, and if you know of any places we can meet!

P.S. Jeff W., if you're in the Albany area now, you are a mere two hours from NYC! :bambi eyes:

2 hours?! Someone has a lead foot, methinks.

Seriously, this sounds great. I can't promise anything, but let me know when and where, I'll definitely try to make it down sometime.

If anyone wants to get something together in the Albany area, Tom (nosissies) and I are around here and, presumably, interested!

Yep, count me in for Albany. Not sure I'd be able to swing NYC too often... if at all (at least for the meantime).

I could probably dig up a few other folks here if we were to organize something. Not too many budding designers though.

I would classify "my playtesters" into two groups:

1)Folks who would make great playtesters with very little prodding.Folks who, already are, or with a little encouraging would be really great/critical playtesters. Admittedly this is a relatively small group, but you have to start somewhere.

2)A much larger group of people who are generally adventurous(perhaps ravenous is more like it) though sometimes fickle they will play just about anything you put in front of them. I typically like to have things a little more refined before going to this group, but they've surprised me a couple times by putting up with (and even enjoying) pretty incomplete games. Playing with these folks would give you a better idea of the general appeal of the game.

looking forward to it.

peace,
Tom

Not to hijack the NYC post, but I live just south of Albany. I am working on my first game and would like to participate in a regular game-playing/play-testing night. Did you guys ever get anything set up?

Nope, nothing. Not a peep from the NYC area. You are the third Albany-area posting member, though, so perhaps some good will come out of this thread...

Well, Gil, the flip side of the coin is, perhaps, that Albany isn't so far from NYC...

Yep, I think the lead foot is calling me! :)

Seriously, something tells me that a trip to Albany may be in my future. I'm busy for the next few weekends, but I'd be interested in swinging by this summer...
