Seasoned Playtest Group Available

Greetings and salutations to the netizens of the BGDF.

My playtest group has just finished up a few gaming projects and we are looking for any board or card game designers looking for a good playtest group.

We are very experienced in playtesting games and know what to look for (broken and weak rules, game play mechanics, etc., even spell-checking manuals). We provide detailed playtest reports and have actually been told that we provide too much information in them (as if that's possible) :D We take playtesting seriously and do not just look at it as an opportunity to get our hands on a game before the public. We all love games and enjoy the opportunity to make them as good as possible before their release.

NDAs are no problem as there has never been a breach in the trust given to us by any game developer, nor will there ever be. We can receive games and paperwork by mail, package service, or email. Whatever is easiest for you is easiest for us. We meet on every weekend and play games for 2 - 3 days and we have no problem playing a game we are playtesting over and over again until we have the information we're looking for.

We look forward to hearing from you and discussing any projects you have for us.

Thank you.

Is this a free service you provide, or do you charge a fee? if so, how much?

We do this for free. The only thing we ask for, but never require, is a copy of the completed game and, if possible, a listing in the credits.

Sounds like you provide a great service!! Are you in the US (for mailing considerations)?

Just out of curiosity, have you or your group playtested a published game or games? Does your group go by a name?

Yes we are. We're located in Central Florida. I've now updated my profile so it will show from now on.

So far no. 3 games we playtested earlier this year (and mid- to late last year) are still not published. One was by 321 Studios, another was by Steve Jackson Games, and the 3rd was from Ken Dunn and is currently being turned into a different game. And I can't talk about the ones we just finished up as I'm still under NDAs on those. Hopefully they will hit the shelves real soon.

Unofficially, our group is know as The KAB Gamers Group. I post all of our session reports on BGG under that name but none of us really like it. It was just a name spit out when we were discussing group names and seemed to be OK at the time. :)

Playtesting

Hi Cromaa,

Sounds like a great service. In particular, I've got a game which has been playested a bit but could really benefit from a lookover by some experienced gamers (High Council of Evensford). Also, I worry that I've ironed out the kinks that can be found according to my playtesters playing styles, but ther emight be some others out there.

The trick is I'm down in Australia. The game uses ...
(1) counters
(2) 2 decks of specialised cards
(3) game board

I assume you'd be fine with supplying (1) as any sort of counters will tend to do. (3) ... well I've got to move off my hand drawn board some time and Imight be able to do it so it could be assembled from A4 sheets ... and (2) exists as 2 Word files which can be printed onto business cards. Are you willing to do this (I feel guilty asking!) or would you need me to send the cards in the mail?

Talk about lucky...

First I discover this forum, then I discover a group looking to playtest, then I discover that group is in Central Florida!

Cromaa, do you have a schedule or are things on a first-come-first-served basis? Do you have a preferred style of game?

I'd love to get some more information about your group, to see how it can fit in relative to our other playtesting groups.

Welcome to the site! I hope you find it as nice here as I have.

I sent them an email or private message to the playtest group a while back but haven't heard any response yet. Although my profile says Utah, I am still in the Orlando area for the next 2 weeks. Although I don't have much time for games while trying to pack and get goodbyes in, I may have an open date to test games if it's not a far drive. Also, Mayfair is going to be in Kissimmee for the next couple Thursdays to show off their games, and the 29th is the big bang of them all, where they will be showing Tigris and Eurphrates, which I have not played but really want to.

Tell me if any of this interests you,

-Steve

We're not quite ready yet...

Thanks for the offer, but we don't have anything currently ready for playtesting. We've had two games shot down by playtesters so far this year (thank goodness), and our next prototype won't be ready for "external" playtesters until sometime in mid-August. I'm hoping that if everything goes well, I'll be able to show the prototype at CHITAG, though that's an awfully tight schedule.

Where in Kissimmee is Mayfair showing? I know there's the big WOTC game expo this weekend, but I hadn't heard about Mayfair running anything.

Sorry to hear you're leaving the area, but I'm sure I'll see you around these forums.

Are you talking about the Grand Prix? If I remember right, that is coming up soon. I sometimes keep up with Magic when I'm bored.

At Coliseum of Comics in Downtown Kissimmee, they are doing the demos.

Yes, I plan to be here as much as I can, but without my cable connection at home (and work) I'll won't be as able to comment as much as I wish I could.

Funny thing, right before I leave, Sci-Fi City gets all the best games in the world in. I don't have room for them and saving cash for the move. Plus, I find that there is a gaming scene in Central Florida, although I thought it was a graveyard for so long.

Good luck on your games. Playtesters are a tough crowd. I have a good amount of differences in mine. Diversity is good!
