SF Bay Area Playtesters wanted for on-going relationship

Howdy;

Sorry if that subject line sounds like a personals ad, but it sums up what's up.

My name is Anthony Thompson, president of Thompson Industries, a board game company located in Berkeley CA. We're working on a big multi-part project right now, and our current program of dropping in to game stores and scrounging up whoever is around for testing just doesn't cut it, and mailing off prototypes to groups off-site and waiting for feedback doesn't feed my sense or urgency.

I'm trying to put together a group of 4-8 people who can commit to playtesting 1-3 times a week from March until Spetember. It would be ideal if this could happen on-site in our office during business hours, but after hours is good too.

Now, my name's not Rockefeller. but of course I want to reward people for their hard work and the good results they provide. If you can think of an incentive that would incentivize you, well, it never hurts to ask.

Interested parties are free to contact me directly at thompson@thompsonindustry.com.

And just so this thread isn't COMPLETELY content-free, let me share the following:

Beyond just adressing the issues you want addrssed in a playtest, testers often give feedback that is designed to address what they see as problems. Root problems, such as "too much randomness", can be very subjective; that feedback coming from a Warhammer 40k enthusiast has a very different meaning than when coming from a casual german-and-beer-and-pretzel gamer. A questionaire that gathers some information about tester prefernces can be extremely useful. You don't even have to ask meta questions such as "How much randomness do you like?" but simply "What are your favorite games? What are your most-played games?" and my favorite "What house rules or tweaks have you introduced and why?".

Sounds like a great opportunity for those in the area to take part in the process of getting a game to market. I only wish that I lived in the area. Sadly, I am east coast (NY). Let me know if you need playtestes from a distance. I meet with a ground a few times a month.

Regarding compensation... If I were a playtester putting my own time into it, then receiving playtesting credit in the rules and possibly a free copy of the game would be enough reward for me.
