I'm embarassed to say it, but the more I try and use GIMP, the harder it seems to get. The program used to open up with the Toolbox (main window), the Document, and a Layer manager of some kind. Now it only opens the first two, and I can't find anything that will let me access the layers- except the PgUp and gDn shortcuts to toggle between layers (which seemed to only work sometimes).

Several people have said that GIMP is so wonderful, but I can't seem to do what I think should be a pretty simple operation on it... this is getting frustrating!

Please help?

What version of the gimp are you using. They made things a littler easier to use in version 2.0.

It's a strage program, but once you get past the learning curve it's very quick and streamlined.

If you are already using version 2 then goto File / Dialogs in the Toolbox windows and choose layers. It should bring the window back up.

To open the Layers dialog, right-click on your image, go to the "Layers" menu, and click the first item, "Layers, Channels & Paths". I'm fairly certain that this will work in any version.

Thanks, that did it. I do in fact have v2.0.

Thanks,
