Small Run UK Card Printing?

I've developed a card game that uses 70 30 mm x 30 mm cards.

For my first production test run I got A4 sheets of cards printed and laminated. The cards then had to be cut out by hand which took a very long time.

Due to the success of this first run (all copies sold) I am looking to do another run but I do not like the thought of going down the same route as before and I would like sturdier cards.

What I am looking for is a UK based (or somewhere that can ship to the UK at an affordable rate) method of getting 50, 100 or 250 sets of the games produced. This time round I am wanting the cards to be 1 mm thick and still 30 mm x 30 mm.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

You want cards a millimetre thick? Are you sure you mean cards, not counters?

Yes I am sure. I'm looking for jigsaw piece type of thickness so that when the cards are moved in the play area the neighbouring cards do not move all over the place.

You effectively want counters, even if you call them cards.

Visit my website and look for information on Board Game Manufacturers in the "Game Design" section.

Or look up Jigsaw Puzzle Manufacturers on Google.

Thanks for the links.

If at all possible I am wanting to use a UK or European company to cut down on the shipping and other costs incurred when dealing with a non EU country.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Given the strength of the £ against the $ (US or Can), there's a good chance that printing+shipping from there will be cheaper than printing+shipping locally.

Back when I was running Hogshead Publishing, we did all our printing in the US, Canada or the Far East. This was the cheapest way of doing things, even as the £ sunk to below $1.40.

Hi BC,

There are only 2 professional card printing firms in the UK

"Richard Edwards" and "Games Print & Services". Both websites here:

http://www.richard-edward.com
http://www.gamesandprint.co.uk

They are quite pricey for very small runs and even then I think the smallest they do is 500.

However, some people I know contact the print services at Universities.
Contact your local university and see if they offer something like that.

I presume you are not looking for top notch packaging if so then try the unis.

Coincidently I do know Leicester University has printed for a PhD student some Voyager cards. ( http://www.brunel.ac.uk/about/acad/sed/sedres/si/ista/outreach/voyager/ )

Good luck.
