I don't know how long this sale will last but Woodcrafts & Supplies is currently discounting a number of their products including wooden cubes (described as "blocks" on their site). You can get 1/4" cubes for 2 cents, 3/8" cubes for 2.5 cents, and 1/2" cubes for 3 cents, all in any quantity (which is a substantial discount even on their 1,000 qty pricing).

I placed my order almost immediately. :)

Sadly, not much is on sale.. Colored game pawns for $0.05.

Snowmen can make for great bits http://www.woodcraftssupplies.com/snowmen.html

Thank you FL, I'm not sure if I should order anything... The shipping to Canada might kill the deal.

Aye, the game pawns are pretty cool and that's an awesome pre-painted price. Unfortunately if your game includes more than just the pawns you'd have a hard time matching colors up (which is why I didn't order any). However if you just need the pawns that deal is probably unbeatable in small quantities.

The House really thrilled me when I saw it and I was going to buy some until I saw that they are 2" W X 1-7/8" T X 1" Thick. Those are pretty darned big.

Just did some comparison-shopping over at woodwrks.com (where I usually by my wooden pieces) ... even on some of the on-sale items, woodwrks.com has better pricing for larger quantities. It does seem that woodcraftsupplies.com is a better deal for smaller quantities, though.

I'd suggest checking both sites for your exact needs to see where the better deal is. Also, both sites have free shipping (continental US only) at a certain dollar amount ordered ... so, keep that in mind.

Aye, no question. I was just hoping to point out the smaller blocks which are currently cheaper at Woodcrafts & Supplies no matter how many you buy. Even at Woodworks' best price (highest quantity) 1/4" blocks and 3/8" blocks are 2.7 cents each. 1/2" blocks are cheaper at Woodworks (at 2.7 cents each instead of 3 cents) if you buy 1000 or more.

This kind of material seems to require a ton of shopping around as prices vary considerably from source to source. I'll have to try Woodworks on some other items, thanks for the tip!

Not sure if it helps you, FL, but thought I'd point it out to you ... http://www.craftparts.com/Adobe/birdhpg5.pdf

Check out item "B", the "Mosquito, mini" houses -- 3/4" x 1/2" x 1/2" -- that's what I'm using for the "Builder" pieces in my Castle Danger set right now. They handle well, but there is a tiny hole in one side. That is the page from the hardcopy catalogue used by woodwrks.com, though I don't see that particular part offered in their online store.

Hope you find it helpful.

Thanks for the tip!

I just received my cube order. First the cubes seem to be mostly fine, but there are few problems.

Some of the wood is a bit darker than other in the 1/4" and 3/8" -- if you paint them completely then they'll look the same, but if you dye them then they'll vary. This is pretty common in wood, though, so no real problem.

I ordered 500 1/4" cubes but received a bunch of extras -- 118 extras, in fact. Some of the cubes are a bit malformed, but only about 10 or 20 so the extras make up for it nicely.

I also ordered 500 3/8" cubes but was 53 short. Since about 6 or 7 of them are malformed that puts me about 60 short. I'll write them about that.

I ordered 250 1/2" cubes and again received a bunch of extras -- 69 extras. This is more important with these, to me, because while very few of them are malformed, per se, they vary quite a bit in size -- by at least 1/16" in all directions. They're mostly all cubes but some are just considerably larger or smaller than others.

Overall I'm happy, though being shorted on the 3/8" cubes is disappointing. I was pleasantly suprised by the extras, of course -- in fact the 1/2" cubes came in bags of 100 and they simply sent 3 bags even though I only ordered 2.5 bags.
