Established franchise game creation.

I'm in the midst of finishing off a game which I've been calling Merchants of Catan. Simply because once I thought of tying in the Catan "themes" to the game it came together very quickly.

Now, I know I couldn't publish it as that name without permission. So my question is how do I get that permision? Or should I cancel the idea altogether and simply change the name?

Obvious reason I'd want it published after the Catan franchise is for instant recognition. But is this a reasonable expection (albeit a lot shot) or is it just wishfull thinking altogether?

Hey dude,

From the Catan Gmbh website :

Quote:
Licensing Philosophy

Catan GmbH believes that great games are timeless creations. Klaus Teuber’s classic works offer lasting appeal and enduring commercial strength. Catan GmbH only sanctions licensees capable of carefully building solid, long-term publishing and marketing programs. It is also important that these firms function well within a creative, cooperative, and comprehensive strategic vision. Since our game properties are adaptable to virtually every form and venue of popular entertainment – including literary, online, console, wireless, and film applications - we seek stable, visionary, team-oriented licensees. They must be fully devoted to product quality. Our licensees must work well with the other licensees and understand not only the property, but the ongoing needs of both the trade and (more importantly) the consumer.

.... it's not entirely discouraging, but it's fairly specific too. Check out their site and make your own conclusions:

Thanks man. I don't think that's exactly what I'm looking for. But it's a good place to start. :)
