With all the talk about game submissions, I thought it would be helpful to add a section of game publishers' links to the Web Resources section. I know that there are a few game publishers listed under the general links, but I thought a list of publishers specifically organized to help everyone find links to submission guidelines would be helpful.

I've compiled a list of the main companies I found just walking around the local mega-gaming store. I'll paste them here and sort then according to their submission acceptance status.

Three were actively encouraging submissions and posted their guidelines on their website. One implied that submissions are welcomed and gave an email for to which designers can write for submission information. Many were not actively discouraging submissions, but had no guidelines stated on their site. Two companies will only accept games from an agent or broker. Only one site was actively discouraging submissions.

Keep in mind that this is only an introductory list to help other game designers find contact information for publishers. Please feel free to add more publisher websites and contact information if you know of any.

Great information! This resource would be even better if you added a general note of what types of games each one deals in (yeah, that should be part of the research for the designer... but then, so should finding these places, so why not help us out all the way?).

From my more recent experiences of late last year ...

Face2Face Games

Accept submissions using contact on website. If they are interested, they ask for the rules, and then a prototype if they are still interested.

Phalanx Games

phalanxgames.nl

Accept submissions using contact on website. (They were busy at the time I wrote to them [just before Essen] and invited me to recontact them in November, but Face2Face Games were looking at the prototype by then).

Steve,

What a helpful resource, thanks for doing this! This strikes me as something that will be great when the site is ported over to a Wiki format, as keeping this info up to date would be easier.

I disagree. I think it would just add more clutter to the list, and it's not necessary; you can then go over to BoardGameGeek and search by company to get a feel for what each publisher's games are like. Taking the time to do your own research on this will show, and if you're serious about submitting, this is a step I think that one needs to take on one's own.

I can add from experience that Queen Games, Kronberger Spiele, Alea and Hans Im Gluck all accept submissions, after sending them a short abstract of the game by email.

You can contact Winning Moves Germany by filling out a games submission form: http://www.winning-moves.de/index.php?mid=6&cid=6

An extensive list of publishers can be found here (in Dutch, shouldn't be a problem though, A-M):
http://www.bordspel.com/links/uitgever.html

and here (N-Z):

This is exactly the kind of input I was hoping for! With more input like this we'll have an extensive list of publishers accepting submissions.

Great links to other game publishers' sites, I didn't even know there were tha many publishers out there!

***Just wanted to add that I have created a submissions page on my website and we are indeed looking at submissions. The link is here: www.zmangames.com/submissions.htm

Let me know if I left out important information that a game designer might wish to know before sending a game over (and no, asking to put down rates and other payment info will not be added :)

Good luck.

Not to be a downer but...

I just noticed that we're on that list of companies that might be accepting game submissions.

Not to be a downer, but don't submit games to Live Oak Games. We simply don't have the resources necessary to publish games by outside authors. I don't foresee that changing in the next couple of years (if it does, I'll post to BGDF, of course).

Now, if you want to win a game design contest to display your talents to all those other guys - that we can help you with.

Could you be more specific about the false tidbit? I'm not sure what you mean.

false tidbit meaning that they're accepting games. Since they're not, I'd like to find out what source he was reading that was listing companies accepting submissions (minus Live Oak). I'd like to know for my own due diligence as I explore that possibility.

Now I understand! The lsit was compiled by going to each publisher's web site and looking for submission information. The companies were then listed according to what I found. Some companies stated on their web site that they are accepting submissions, so they were put down as curently accepting submissions. The company that said it was not accepting submissions was listed as such.

The companies that didn't say if they were or not (gave no submission information) were listed as ambiguous, meaning that someone looking to submit to them would need to contact them to see if they were accepting submissions or not. That's where Live Oak Games was characterized because there was nothing on their website stating their submission policy. When Pat stated that his company wasn't, their company's info was updated.

Since I posted the list, other members have chimed in with some great information about other companies' policies, or about the policies of a company that was listed as ambiguous. Once the wiki gets going, this will all be ported into a clean format that is easier to update and maintain.

Hope that helps. Best of luck with your submission!

So, has this list been updated, compiled and posted somewhere? Might be nice to have in one easy to find location.

Small note that da Vinci games, probably most known for Bang! (awesome game), also says that they accept submissions. Info is at
http://www.davincigames.com/page_eng.cfm?sez=07. They ask you to submit a well tested, polished rules write-up, after which they may ask for a protoype.

I'm not sure what you're asking, but any information that we have is in this thread. The initial post has been updated a couple of times, not to mention the replies made already to the thread. Considering the thread is only about 5 months old, what more do you want? If I am misintepreting your request, I apologize. Otherwise, this thread is the most current information we have.

Okay, I'm lazy, I'll admit it. I saw this post and thought, this is great! But then I saw all the adds and deletes and wondered if there was a revised list that is updated as time goes by. Not that I couldn't go through all the posts and figure it out for myself, but as time goes by there are bound to be lots of changes and me being lazy and all... Thanks anyway.

Glad I found this thread! I reported elsewhere that University Games-- www.universitygames.com -- a middle-to-large established publisher, out of San Francisco, does accept "over the transom"-- non-agented, author-submitted products. Fill out the standard release on their website and wait a couple months for a letter either inviting or passing.

Audience: they are focussing these days on the juvenile market. One of their licenses is ColorForms. They may expand to more teen and adult products in the future, so it's an iron in the fire.
