I have seen threads about different game design contests, it all sound very interesting.

I have heard of hippodice (i think that was the name of it), but i would reallly like to know more. Point me in the right direction, please!!

Are game design contests anything that you would recommend participating in? Whats your impressions?

I have seen that Sedjtroll is involved and he seems to be doing well!
Good luck!

Thanks

Hippodice is a board game competition organized by a German gaming club. You have to send them a game proposal and a rulebook before the first of November. If they like the rules you will be asked to send a prototype before the first of December. A dozen of games or so will reach the final round, and will be tested by a group of people from the industry.

Yes, I do recommend them. Having a deadline is a good motivation to get your design "done". It forces you to write good, comprehensible rules. It provides feedback, albeit often fairly summarized, but it's better than nothing. If your game does well it gets your game in the spotlights, which might increase the chance to get it published. Certainly, getting "Gheos" into the final round of the Hippodice made it easier to find a publisher.

One thing you might want to look at is the costs of participating. Hippodice doesn't charge anything, apart from a return shipping fee. However, some contests charge a hefty fee for entering, so make sure this is worth it for you.

Are there any more contests out there?

Hippodice seems to be the major one.

Thanks

I proposed to have separate forum on game contest. Since this is a very important topic for some of us. We could post and discuss coming contest and results. Ask question on the rules and discuss translation as these contest are sometimes held in a different language than English.

Have a good day.

One must be of true and righteous heart; only then can one behold the vaporwiki link. It is the promised Avalon for which we all yearn. ;)

On Funagain it says there'll be another design contest in june
by Eagle Games, but you have to wait for further info. Well,
I don't know really. It states: "There will be several preliminary events at the major conventions (GenCon, Origins, Boardgamegeek.con etc.) and a tournament format that will allow retailers and distributors to recommend game designs. At the end of the contest the top designers will be invited to the Eagle Games offices where they will pitch and play their games in person with the Eagle Games staff and review team. The design contest winner's game will be published by Eagle Games! "

I don't know whether you're, as a contendant, are obliged to
go to all those meetings (it's a problem for me, since I'm from Holland)
but we'll see... First I need to get some time to work on my Amici&Famiglia.
