OK we need to agree on some terminology / nomenclature:

What are we going to call the collection of tiles that make up the cave system?

Locations, areas, what?

These tiles are broken down into three different types of tiles:

Cave - Obvious
Passageway - obvious
Transition\Entrance\Threshold - Which of these three (or does anyone have a better term?) do we wish to use?

Search tiles - These are the tiles that get placed over the cave tiles with search icons on them.

Major search tiles - the mandatory tile that must be placed on one of the search tiles in each completed cave. These tiles will have the discoveries and obstacles on them. I like the term 'Cave Feature' for this tile, but I understand this might not work if we plan on using the different game types suggested by Scurra. I think if we come up with a more open ended name for this tile, then we can be a lot more flexible with what we want to do with the tiles in the future.

Obstacles - obvious
Discoveries - the things that score you points.

Are we ok with these terms?

how about "portal" sounds more 'cavey'

or, "mouth"

Terminology

Portal sounds great.

btw, I love how we're all going insane with our avatars now :)

My thoughts

I'd have to say I'm against the portal term. It sounds too much like a sci fi wormhole thingy. How about we go with a cave mouth? How about the collective name for the transitions (mouth or portal), cave and passageway tiles? I was thinking just plain cavern tiles.

Also as I was exploring the internet I came across two interesting sites:

I think both can give us a lot of ideas when we actually start fleshing out the details for the game.
