Monster Wars - Need idea help

I am working on a game right now that is a sort of 'battle for the world, beat the other player' game. The game has the player choose the character that they want to play and that character has a deck that comes with it. Each character has a deck that has been made for that character. You can get a little better idea here:
http://www.bgdf.com/node/5073

The problem I am running into is that I can't figure out what to do with one of my characters. I don't know what type of deck to give him.

As an example of what I'm looking for I'll explain how one of the completed decks I have made works:
This deck is made off the idea of a Swamp type zone with a player that is a Shaman, and a Monster that is an evil Ent who hates trees.
Each player has a Legendary Monster that they always have in play. This decks Legendary gains power based on the number of territories that you control because he eats the Trees on that territory and takes them over for his own power. The cards that back it are:
-Spawn Saplings (or roots that take over an area so that he can devour it giving him more power).

The other card combo:
A monster that gains power if there are Ghost type monsters in the graveyard.
Ghosts that have the ability to go to the graveyard if they want to.
Also; a Monster that gains power by sucking the life out of other Monsters. Giving the player the ability to let him suck the life out of the Ghosts, and then they go to the Graveyard, giving the first Monster power as well. But it gives the player the ability to just let one of the Monsters gain power if they want.

I hope that is a decent explanation; basically I am looking for cool combo type ideas for my decks. I want them to be a little complex, making it so that you have to think about them. At the same time though, if you don't know what you are doing you can still function, just not as well.

I have another deck idea that I am working on, but I need some help with one of them.
The Tamer for this deck is a Mermaid that lives in the ocean. She is a naive being with a very strong Sea Dragon type Monster that acts like a Protector to her. She doesn't understand that there is danger and evil in the world, she just sort of lives with her dangerous sea creature friends, (like the Sea Dragon, Sharks, etc.) and has grown to understand that they are just her friends. I don't really know what to do with her deck though. I was thinking that she would be a sort of healer, but I thought that might be too cliche.

I'm looking for any ideas pretty much. If you were a Mermaid, what would you want your strengths to be?

Not really an answer

I don't really have an answer to your question, but I figured that I would point you to Epic Duels, since your idea sounds similar. (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3284/star-wars-epic-duels) Also, don't be afraid to go 'cliche'. Instead, think of it as an 'archetype'. Using archetypes is useful in all kinds of design (movies, books, etc.). If you don't have a healer, then the mermaid would be a good choice, especially since she has a lot of big friends.

Wow

Well that is a great game to look at, it has the same basic idea that I have (crazy how that works).

I think I might go ahead and make her a healer of sorts and figure out how to do so in my game. I sometimes like to avoid too much of the similar when I do things, but I think with all my other decks I have managed to avoid it enough.

So I am new to this site and new to game making. I have read most of the copyright posts about them, but I was wondering what people actually had to say about this:
Is it wise to post a lot of information about your game? I was thinking about having somebody read over my rules to make sure they make sense, but I don't know if I should keep them private (use a message/email) or if I should just post them.

Either way

I don't think anyone is going to steal your game. It takes a lot of work to make a game, and we are all trying to make our own. There are many posts about this. However, if you are not comfortable sharing it openly, you can do it via message to different people.
