I am having trouble figuring out how to place my 2 main icons on my card template. there are 2 types of creature cards

a normal creature card and a creature with an effect

I moved around the 2 main icons, i like the placements for the normal creatures but it leaves me no room on the card for the effect creatures,

i can move the icons up to make room for the effect box, but then it leaves both type of cards inconsistent with each other.

But if i leave the icons in the middle and remove the effect box for the normal type creatures and then there is a lot of empty space at the bottom and i dont want that

Edit: changed the layout a bit and removed the border

Move the icons down

Maybe you already tried this, but I would try moving the shield and heart icons down to the level of the card name, probably pushing them out a little bit into the border area (much like the third card but with the other border style).

The portrait can then take up the entire core of the card if you want, with a transparent effect box covering the lower part when needed. Just pick and choose portraits for effect-ive creatures so that they look okay with an effect box in that location (humanoids, etc.).

reason there is nothing on the edges of the cards is because that is where it is going to be cut

That looks nicer

That looks nicer, and appropriate whether there is an effect or not. I didn't realize the border was the bleed area. You can probably intrude into that border a bit, just keep in mind your printer's tolerances.

Yeah I have a guide layer

Yeah I have a guide layer hidden in photoshop so I can keep checking if my card elements is not over the cutting line. Plus the game crafter will do all the cutting and printing for me
