Projectile first box total map unfinished

I am wondering if anyone here knows good programs to use for making and/or editing hexagon maps?

Important to know is that I search for one where is can have centre points in the hexagons.
But also important (and not yet found), an editor where I can remove unwanted hexagons.
An editor that also allows hexagons that are cut of half or into thirds.
It would be fun if I also can implement my own textures for the hexagons.

Because (see picture) it goes rather slow in paint. And doesn't really have the textures that I want.

There are lots of programs

There are lots of programs for fantasy gamemasters that make hex maps. Some are free, some cost. The most versatile may be Profantasy Campaign Cartographer. Eric Hanuise used that to make the hex maps (and everything on them) in the Flatlined Games edition of my Dragon Rage.

I normally use CorelDraw, because I have various hex files and can manipulate them with the drawing program. Inkscape (inkscape.org) might do the same thing (and is free, CD is expensive).

I normally use inscape, you

I normally use inscape, you could either use the axonometric grid, or do a batch translation.

I was wondering if there was anything similar that is open source?

For example, I like the map design like in wizard kings:

And I was wondering how I could reproduce that. It's can probably be achieved by stamping the same picture over and over again, but there still seem to ve a variation in size. Maybe Inkscape or gimp could still do the job.

inkscape

Inkscape definitely does what you need and a lot more. It is really easy to learn.

I made this hexmap generator that creates hexes with center-dots in them and also the grid (and backgrounds) are constructed in small parts that are easy to remove or modify:

Hey X3M,I spent a few days

Hey X3M,

I spent a few days some time ago searching for the best way to make a custom hex map. Without getting into all the options, I tell you what I settled on, and actually purchased:

http://www.hexographer.com

This tool is fantastic and I've already used it in two prototypes. With the purchased version, you can import your own images/textures for hexes. There is also a standard option to toggle center spot dots on all hexes (you can number the hexes too).

I'd check out the site, try the free version, and if you like it, definitely I think it's your best option.

WARNING: The free version, though functional, has many limitations, for example, when you create a hex map, you can't resize the hexes. This is among the reasons I purchased the full version.

Thank you all for your

Thank you all for your input.

It just so happens, that I have tried the free version of Hexographer 1 year ago already :D. And it did good work for me, yes.
I might consider getting the full version once I get a real prototype out for publishing. But for now, the free version will do. And the main map in paint will be my "map" map for creating those maps in Hexographer.

Was just wondering if there where other good options out there.
I guess Hexographer (upgraded with scissors after printing) wins.
