Hi!
I am working on a combat system using cards instead of dice. I want to make the cards feel unique. For example, the Troll I have made has of course many cards attacking with his big club, but also cards like regeneration and Stupid (which is a bad card...).
Now I want to put together a Skeleton deck. But what special things do a skeleton do besides standard attacks? I can't really come up with anything good (intimidating rattle :) ?
Maybe some magical things?
This forum is really great and I have gotten many good advice from you guys before - big thanks for that!!

Skeletons on parade!

Hi Dabuel. I think the key aspect of a skeleton is that it's a form of "undead", and therefore could have all of the typical aspects of undead creatures in D&D or other games, such as being susceptible to holy attacks, and can move silently to surprise opponents. As well, they may be harder to kill (since they're already dead). In particular, crushing weapons will do a lot of damage to them, but they can shrug off piercing weapons like arrows. They could have a terrifying effect on opponents. You could also push the skeleton theme a bit further and have skeleton warriors, skeleton mages, etc. each with its own abilities. Would you consider including a lich in your skeleton deck?

Some keywords for the above attributes:
- Undead (maybe this "class" of creature has a number of standard attributes)
- Unholy
- Silent
- Resilient
- Susceptible to Crushing Weapons
- Resistant to Piercing Weapons
- Fear Aura
- Spell Caster

I hope that helps!

Regards,
Qwib

Skeletons are generally

Skeletons are generally considered to be low level cannon fodder in a lot of rpg's. Unless they happen to skeletal knights or big bad Lich Lords as Qwibban suggested.

You could offer a variety of skeletal subjects if the game mechanics permit different types in the same class.

Alternatively, you could give them magical abilities. In respect to divination, 'casting the bones' is something that people can relate to. So you could make the class a combo class. Each card would have a bone symbol and different combinations of cards could have different magical effects - in the personae of a bone mage.

Other than that you could simply name attacks that would accord with a skeletal theme or skeletal movement.

Knuckle bones (hand attack), bone dance (multi hit), back bone (+defence), crossed bones (block), bone yard (short jab), brittle bones (magic - opponents defence lowered), bad to the bone (sneak attack), skull (head butt), socket stare (another magic attack), skeletal wake (big attack), tombstone (big attack).

That is a great suggestion! These are fodder skeletons and should not be powerful. They will have attack cards like "sword thrust", but it would be fun to name the cards more thematic..
The cards are either of attack or defense type and only used in combat.

Thanks also Qwibblan for your suggestions!

If anyone else has suggestions Please post!
Thanks!
