Can't for the life of me get my head around trying to compare the highest of multiple dice rolls vs the highest of multiple dice rolls using anydice.com

what is the probability of 2d6+2 (highest of either of the two dice) being greater than 3d6 (highest of either of the three dice)

thanks BGDers

Probability of 3d6 outcome

Probability of 3d6 outcome being higher than 2d6+2:

19.9%

My way of calculating it may be wrong, but that's what I came up with.
And by the way... that was NOT a "Quick" dice question or else you would have come to an answer yourself.

My mistake ECS - I thought there would be a quick way of putting it through anydice.com - thanks for the result though!

I got as far as: output 2d6+2 > 3d6 which is fine except that it gives me the probability of 4-14 being > 3-18 but that's where I got stuck... anybody else out there that is a whizz at anydice.com?

Actually Ive done it... it think!

The any dice code is this:

output 1@2d6+2 > 1@3d6

giving the probability of 72.07% that the highest single dice rolled from 2d6+2 will be > the highest single dice rolled from 3d6 (in case anyone is interested!) Boy - never realised that probabilities were such fun... would have payed more attention in maths class if I knew how useful it was going to be

aaaaah. I tried the > symbol but didn't know about the 1@. Good stuff. I don't like reading into probability... I just get even more angry when the dice don't roll in my favor.
