Good day!
I know this isn't a dating site (Swoosh!) but would anybody be interested in doing a collaboration on a board game? This is something I want to try primarily to motivate myself to COMPLETELY finish a game (it would be nice to make it out of playtesting at least once during my lifetime) but also because I find myself constantly coming up with themes and then trying to design a game upon them, trying to get the right feel and so on; only some of the themes are a bit tricky (for example parasite-infected superhumans using their abilities by injection). It'd be a great help to have somebody tell me "This-and-that doesn't work, but this over here is fun."

I'll expand a bit:

I've tried making a complete game based on forum brainstorms sometimes in the past, and I won't be doing any of that soon... This'll be a close collaboration between two minds (preferrably one of them will be mine) and if this works out I'll be eager to try and work with a bigger team, but for now I want to keep it simple.

I won't say I'm looking for a specific person; about everybody here seems quite bright so I'm not worried.

I remind you that this is an experiment done for fun i.e I'm not looking for a publication or anything. My only goal is to lovingly create and finish a game design. Of course it's going out onto BGDF but I'm not worrying about "market competition".
I myself am not exactly an experienced designer but I know that it takes psychological and mathematical understanding to make a game.

I discourage you from expressing your explicit interest by posting in this thread as I don't want to pick the first reply or to seemingly be dissin people. If there is some sort of PM function at hand then send me a message and I'll respond to one of the first five replies or something like that.
Any other comments, critiques and suggestions as to how this can be done are all very welcome in this thread!

I look forward to it yo :D

So, what kind of game are you

So, what kind of game are you wanting to do ?

Do you got bits of it already planned (some mechanics or maybe a theme) ?

Im doing a similar experiement right now on another forum, where i have tossed out a theme and a couple of mechanics that i plan to use.

The brainstorming part of the design process when discussing on a forum is often overwhelming, and lots of good ideas are floating around (and some really bad ones too!).

I have lots of prototypes laying around in the house, lots of good ideas in my desk drawer and i did this experiment for similar reasons like you, i wanted the extra "pressure" to just not settle with a prototype that i play with family or friends, i wanted a super-hot-real-deal game that i could take to the printer and publish myself if no one else would want to produce it.

I have a really good start on the project.

To force yourself to explain parts, that to you are obvious and to discuss this and that is a good scenario analysis tool, that really helps out during the whole process.

When every thought get documented then its really easy to rewind and erase & improve.

Im right now about 500% better at Adobe Illustrator than i was at the beginning of my project, and i really feel that i have grown in many ways as a designer, i wish i would have done this earlier.

I still have problems (like how to install extensions to Inkscape on a windows machine) and the project evolves all the time, even got the foundation to a couple of other games aswell during the process when i realised that i cant really use all of my initial ideas.
At least they are now documented and somewhat tested and are ready to go in another game.

I wish you the best of luck and look forward to hear about your project and designs.

Awright!

Phew, editing the first post is done! No more textblock of mesh. :)

Hello Candika :D
Of course there's always a lot of ideas floating around both inside my head and in random text documents on my PC but I don't want to set anything in stone because I don't know who I'll be working with, and whomever that will be; surely they'll have their own likes and dislikes, so we'll be able to discuss that before the start of the project.
But if anybody wants me to post some suggestions I can do that too.

It's really cool that the forum-thing is working out for you! Though right now I'm looking to just do a two-man show; I see what you mean and I hope that this will turn out as good.

When/If the project starts rolling I'd be happy to do a game journal on the progress.
Cheers! :D
