Games like Vegas Showdown

Hello All,

I am working on a game where I am toying with the idea of players have their own player mat and laying tiles on the mat to create a building. I am familiar with Vegas Showdown that works like this. I was curious if anyone knew of any other games with this type of game mechanic, as I would like to do a little more research and make sure I am not copying something already out there, and also for a little inspiration.

Thanks,

~Brad

not many come to mind

few use a separate mat for each player.

The Ubongo game series does this on a timer. FITS is like Tetris on a board game. Galaxy Trucker does not concern with shapes but more the connection types on the square tiles.

Hope this helps.

AWESOME!

Thanks Willi...

I quickly looked at Galaxy Trucker - and it looks like something I should certainly research a little more.

If we can't come up with many games that use this mechanic that tells me possibly two things:

1.) It isn't an overdone mechanic - which is good for me!
2.) There might be a reason no one uses it - and that is because people don't like it - which is not good for me, lol!

Thanks again Willi - any information is good information to have!

It's not especially common

It's not especially common nor rare as a mechanic concept - there's a couple different ways to do it. Looking through my first page of ratings, some games where you have your own board that you're building up:

Princes of Florence, Vikings, Dungeon Lords, Agricola, Hawaii, Castles of Burgandy, Puerto Rico

Closely related, some games where you repeatedly add in tiles to create your own little development:

O Zoo Le Mio, Alhambra, Glen More, Power Grid: Factory Manager
