Jokingly stolen title from Tenelen, but none more true.

I've worked on my Steampunk miniatures game alone and gone through several revisions before getting burnt out and halting. Now, I'm starting again and in need of character ideas to fill the world and, more immediately, the game. I'm basically in the same scenario as Tenelen: Need help but need to cover butt from legal issues of ownership of said help.

Would it be too much to just put the disclaimer on this forum post or should I just make this a Blog Post in BGDF asking for help w/ the disclaimer?

Haha nice!

I would be a little interested in helping develop a character for you; but I wouldn't quiet know how the legal issues of that would work. In my opinion, if I choose to create a character and give you full access to do whatever you wish with that character there shouldn't be any problem. I would create a new character to give to you, knowing that I will not use that character for anything else.

I do understand however that some people might want to be able to use that character for other reasons. I think the best way to avoid problems is to just have people agree to two things:

If they post a character for you, that character is now yours, and they lose rights to it. (IE: Just don't use a character you have developed or want to use for your own story).
The character must be new, and original, and have not been used in anything else previously.

Other than that, I would just like to know if there are any details I need to be made aware of before I start to develop a character.

The character can be good,

The character can be good, neutral, or evil. Basically, lots of small factions are fighting to rule the Kingdom of Victoriana. There are Loyalist who fight for the old government and are usually Guilded, the Madmen who seek to become the new government, Sky Pirates, and Vagabonds (Neutral Mercenaries). The Madmen have done genetic mutations on themselves like Mr. Bertrum, the Alligator Man-Beast (Bi-pedal Alligator w/ Vest & Derby.) Flintlock pistols, alchemy, Aether, and low magic are allowed.

Name:
Brief History:
Clothing/Protective Wear:
Items/Weapons:
Passive Ability(s):
Aggressive Ability(s):
(Once-a-Game Ability?):

From there, I just convert the what's written into game stats and that's that.

(I really hate writing this as it seems cold and corporate, but I have to cover my butt.)

Heya "Evil Colonel Sanders" :(

I wouldl like to contrib something but the disclaimer made me scared like you will steal my soul and fry it up in your famous spices! *cowers*

But either way, you lise "abilities" (offensive / once a game etc) but you need to let us know a little more about the actualy game mechanics / what type of game it is - if you want to know this kind of thing :)

I know it sounds scary, but in case this game MAGICALLY takes off and becomes a smash hit (yeah, uh huh), I don't want anyone beating down my door, shaking me down for financial compensation because I used "their" character's name or idea. Kinda see where I'm coming from? ANYWAY.

As for broad mechanics, it's a lot like Malifaux. Skrimish game. Single models w/ multiple hit points. 2 Actions per model comprised of Move, Action, Charge, Ability. Turns are "My Model, Your Model". You use d12s as your attack dice. Each weapon has a different skill and number you need to meet or beat to succeed. Will that about do?

I really wanted to get outlandish responses with no boundaries in order to maximize creativity like you would if you were to build a D&D character or ANY RPG character for that matter. In that sense, try to disregard the above paragraph explaining the game and think up a Character you would like to play in the new Privateer Press 'Iron Kingdoms' RPG which is coming out soon.

I understand the hatred for the disclaimer. I don't like it either, but it's always a thought people have in their mind. "If this gets famous, will I get credit (money) for what I've created."

I will hopefully be able to get a character up for you in a few days, but I've been spending most of my spare time trying to figure out how to work with my World Building idea.

Dr. Adrian Hawfinch Exshaw

Dr. Adrian Hawfinch Exshaw, Madmen

Dr. Exshaw is a Madmen Alchemist who is half-wolf, half-man. He has the body and face shape of a man, with sharp pointed teeth, ruffled grey hair, and wolf ears allowing him to have a great sense of hearing. He also has wolf eyes, and slight claws that extrude out of his fingers on both hands.

He normally wears a long dark tan trench coat that carries different supplies (usually various metals) that he uses to do alchemy with anytime he gets into battle. Under his trench coat he generally has a metal vest to protect his chest and leather pants. Because of what he wears, he is usually able to take a decent amount of hits before he actually feels any pain.

His weapons range, depending on the type of battle, but most of the time he likes to construct a large sword (or small daggers when he is sneaking) that he does battle with. Because of his half-wolf properties, he has great speed that gives him an advantage against his opponents.

If he enters into a particularly tough battle, you can guarantee that he will use all of his alchemy tricks that he can to win; including turning the enemies weapon into something useless, and even creating a crossbow to attack them from afar.

Once a game ability: Allow him to transform into full wolf form for either extra damage, or extra speed (or movement).

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you about this.

Thanks for the addition. I DO

Thanks for the addition. I DO feel that the character is trying to do too much, but then again, I DID ask for it. haha. Unfortunately, the characters in the game are permanently altered into half-beasts which means no transforming. What you have there, as a result, are two good characters. Thanks again for the input!
