Looking for examples of a civil war game (not american)

I'm doing a game on the French Wars of Religion (1550-1600). The issue is that it really isn't a game about territory, I've decided, since it was a civil war with shifting boundaries within France. Any thoughts? Can someone think of a good example of a game that I might crib ideas from? I can think of Republic of Rome, but few others, where the object is to win political goals, not territory.

Thanks!
Ben Baron.

Here I Stand

I've never played it, but you may want to check out "Here I Stand: Wars of the Reformation 1517-1555".

good suggestion!

I actually have a copy of that, I should have said. It does involve capturing territory, although it has a large other component.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks again!
Ben.

War of the Roses

Or maybe it was called Wars of the Roses. It was Avalon Hill based on the conflict in Britain of the same name. I played it many, many times with friends when I was a kid. It was fairly complex and, for us, the parliamentary rules didn't always work great, but it was a civil war game that was not based on territorial acquisition...although holding key cities had some strategic importance.

Isn't there a war game based

Isn't there a war game based on the civil rights struggle of the 60's?

Edit: yep, here we go:

It's modeled on the Twilight Struggle / 1960 style of "card-driven war games" where you're not fighting for territory so much as influence. I love those games, and I think they could provide a good entry-point into a conflict that was about winning hearts and minds, like a religious war.
