Trivia with a Twist

Gerry, I think your card game is very creative. There are several familiar elements styled to play in a unique way. I especially like how the answer sets another process in motion. In regards to opinion, I derive that potential is what you primarily seek. When you say "not connected with the right people", I'm not sure if you mean traditional publishers or interested players? Available for purchase on the Game Crafter site, I anticipate your objective is interested players.

I'm a newbie and my current perceptions may not be accurate. There appears to be two vastly different domains. I think of the first as mainstream, all of the games that you commonly find in most any store that sells games. The other category is hobby games, mostly available online but also sold at specialty hobby stores. Sadly, hobby retail locations are very limited. Some comic book stores realize the potential but still only slightly expand the opportunity.

If not among the fortunate few to be selected by a mainstream (traditional) publisher, the options are self publishing or teaming up with a hobby publisher. Unfortunately, hobby players mostly desire precise types of games such as Euro, role playing, war/battle and fantasy.

My game is similar to yours. I think of it as having mainstream appeal, at least in terms of target audience. These players buy their games at Walmart, Target and other large chains. Seeking something unique online is never of significant interest. Hobby players will explore and purchase online but again, interest is limited to the specific type(s) preferred. Unless a mainstream publisher offers an agreement, our options are limited. I'm working towards expanding distribution opportunities for games like ours. I also think it important for hobby games to become more mainstream as well. The branding may seem a bit juvenile. Actually, the objective is to convey fun with universal symbolism appropriate and understood by all ages: http://www.giggleboxgames.com

Wayne is correct that a games

Wayne is correct that a games need to be targeted to certain markets. Trivia will sell best in the mass market segment. Getting a mass market publisher to pick you up is at best a crap shoot and you will probably need a broker to shop it around for you. A friend of mine that has been in the business since the 80’s told me big publishers like Hasbro turn down 99.9% of everything they are shown. That means even if the broker can get them to look at it your chances are not good. Depending on the subject matter a trivia game might also fit the educational games market so you do have other options.

As for your game I am defiantly not its audience. For me trivia games are like taking tests you didn’t get to study for. One thing I can say is you are taking a novel approach which is a plus.

Hi Dralius,
You are quite right,it sometimes looks like a Lottery.
I believe that you have to be in the right place at the right time, with the Right Product.
Thank You very much for your comments.

The site is blocked in China

I live in China. For some reason, I am unable to view the information everyone else has access to; I can only assume that the capricious authorities have some bizarre rationale for hiding your game from the citizenry (and me) here.

However, I am able to gather that this is a card-based game, with a specially-designed deck. Expandability is a nice feature to add; I've done the same with my own game system. Also, it seems you might also consider translating it for use in other languages. I'm not sure how well trivia-type games might go over in Europe, but there's a French community in Canada, too, where the monster hit Trivial Pursuit originated back in the 1980s.
