Hello everyone, I have been thinking of this idea for several months. Its a science fiction action adventure board game with a script. Basically movie script and adding it to a board game. It will be a co-op game. Players will read their script sheets and move their character chits around the space craft and other locations. There will be adlibs during script monologs and dialogs. Maybe even camera angles. Would you think this would be fun? I think it would be an interesting concept. Interaction from all of the players.

Monsters or aliens or creatures or robots or plant life if any have been sorted to the concept yet. Just thinking aloud about theme and game idea.

Other thoughts:

Players can pick their roles before playing and each character has their own set of skills during game play. Character roles: Captain, First Officer, Science Officer, First mate, Bosun, Maintenance crew, Lt, and so forth. Probably a 8 to 10 crew or 5 to 8 player crew? I guess it all depends on the story doesn't it? Hehe.

So, how does the game part of

So, how does the game part of this work? What sort of decisions are players making? What strategies or tactics or schemes being hatched? How does the co-op win?

What he said...

You don't have a game without a victory condition(s).

You could always make it a rating, number of viewers, extended season, etc.

This is what I have thought about so far.

1) Movie script booklets for each player for each role? Or use script cards in a draw pile and have the players act out the sequence? 2) Victory Points: All players/characters survive during the movie? Everyone is playing to survive or outperform another player to gain extra vp? 3) There are tasks to perform to get the ship back online, attack and defend, and manuever the ship from harms way and into harms way. To be continued...

Imagine this:

What is your favorite science fiction movie? Imagine you are one of those characters in action? The team leader (Captain) of the ship tells his or her crew that there is a problem on board. Everyone scrambles to fix the problem, but something has (boarded, damaged, or sent a beacon for help, or the hull has been breached by other means). All players are scrambling to survive but interruptions keep getting in the way. Players can use the intercom, use weapons, crawl through any part of the ship, even by level. The game should be at least 1 hour an a half or two hours max just like watching a sci-fi movie.

It's not a board game, but...

Have you seen a game called Cosmic Patrol? Might be worth looking up.

Also, this might have been done before, but what if your game a spoof on one season of a sci fi show?
Your game is told in eight episodes, maybe building the season is part of the game.
Each player plays an actor in the show (Captain, Pilot, etc.) and each episode, the players try out "out-shatner" each other by making their character on the show the most important.

Ex - the characters encounter a new alien race this episode. The Captain tries to hog the limelight by picking a fight and duking it out with the alien. The Linguistics Officer plays cards/whatnot to ruin the Captain's chances at succeeding and he gets his butt kicked. Then the Linguistics Officer flips it around and now the episode is about speaking and reasoning with the creature.

Points are scored either by doing things, or perhaps the entire episode is scored and the winnier is the player with the most episodes.

Cosmic patrol,

I have heard of if here and on bgg, but never played or seen what that game is all about. Will check on that later. I like your idea Stag. Hmm, its not shurrades type of a game but its something like it. I was thinking of past t.v. sci-fi shows that do mimic of what I was going for. Like Babylon 5, Andromeda, Lexx, Star Trek, Deep Space 9, Seaquest, etc etc. So yeah, this will be interesting. Players act out parody or original scripts from a sci-fi t.v. show. Yes, this may work. Sweet. I will have something at the end of this week. Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this thread.
