Sound like a fun Yahtzee variant?

Call it "Space Yahtzee" (5 dice) and the map would have a large planet in the middle where players would expand from. There would be approximately 8 medium planets surrounding the base planet and small planets in between the large and medium planets.

-Players would be able to travel among all of the planets by rolling three times and achieving the route criteria. The medium planets would be harder to get to (four-of-a-kinds, full houses, etc.) and rolling pairs and three-of-a-kinds would get you to the smaller planets.

-The smaller planets would have bonus chits on them that assist the rolling process. The three I'm thinking of are 1) Roll four times 2) Roll six dice 3) make one dice wild. These would be used to get to the medium plants that have more difficult criteria so if you fail to get to a medium planet players should still be able to get to smaller planets most of the time.

-The medium planets would have several things going on. One would simply be a "chance" planet and players would go there to roll three times for their best score. Other planets would have numbers on them that are rolled for. For example, one would have "4's" and the person who rolls the most gets a controlling marker on the planet. The reason for control is for delivery chits on other planets. Once you reach this planet, you would deliver a chit to the home planet and get points if you deliver it through planets you control. So maybe someone can make a four route delivery and get 5 points per controlled planet it goes through. One final way to score is by collecting colored chits on planets and depending on how many you get, you would square them at the end. For example, four reds= 16 points.

Kind of simple but it sounds potentially fun in my mind. Any general thoughts or perhaps more specific ways to score?

Sounds more like a solo game

Sounds more like a solo game to me. Otherwise, think of ways to involve players competing with one another for the different planets available. For example: each player has a ship they move around the solar system and only one ship is permitted at any one location.

A time limit would also be recommended, like a certain number of turns available. Maybe one or two things that reward players for incredibly, incredibly lucky rolls or dice combos.

Keep thinking about it, playtest it a bunch with other folks, and I'm sure you'll be able to put this together in a fun little package. :)

Thanks. Actually, the idea

Thanks. Actually, the idea is that players would move ships along routes to different planets and collect stuff or establish a base on the planet so there is a small area control element. Maybe once someone places a controlling marker on a planet, they get a victory every time someone else visits the planet.
