So I've got the basic rules for a deck-building card game based on the stock market. Would I post them here, along with the card templates, or should I do that in a blog? New here, so I really have no idea how this website goes about things.

Since you're looking for playtesters...

You can even host your rules and templates on your own site and link them to people who agree to playtest.

But using strictly BGDF I think your plan of making the rules and cards in a blog and then making a forum post asking for playtesters is a solid one. Just remember to give a brief description of the game in the forum post too, so potential players don't have to read the whole rule set before choosing to playtest.

Good luck!

What does it take to get playtesters on this site? My post has been up, with description and files, for several days, to no response...

What it takes....

I'm new here but it seems to me it might help if you would include a link to the game so people can read it over and decide if it might be fun to play test or not.

Being patient. A small community often means slow discussion, and slow discussion means that users don't have to check for new posts all the time.

Also, stop saying it's like Dominion. Most people already have Dominion, why would they go the trouble to print out another similar game? If someone here didn't like Dominion for any reason, they wouldn't definitely play another game that's like Dominion. Hardcore Dominion fans would be upset because they would think you stole Donald X. Vaccarino's design, even when you probably haven't done that.

Playtesting

Sounds interesting. If I can see the rules I'd be happy to consider playtesting.
Edit: Sorry, I'm stupid. Didn't realize that it was on your blog. :P

Just a few quick thoughts.

Your first post says that you have the "basic rules" for the game ready; that to me says "untested". Even a willing playtester is unlikely to have much interest in blind-testing a game that's in an early stage of development. If your game hasn't been extensively tested, keep testing it until it is and then ask for help again when it's ready. If it has been extensively tested, try to say a bit more about what state it's in and what kind of feedback you're looking for.

BGDF isn't a great place to find playtesters, because the designers in the community have games of their own they want to playtest, and asking them to use their playtesters' time to help you is a lot to ask. (It's one thing to ask me to help you, but to ask me to ask my friends to help you is a bigger request). You might have more luck at BoardGameGeek.

However, it's important to know what you're hoping to get out of blind playtesting. It is VERY hard to find good blind testers with an open forum post like this, either here or at BGG. You'll get some replies expressing interest and you'll never hear from the people again; some will promise to print the game and won't; some will play it and not provide feedback; some will provide feedback but it will be confusing or unhelpful; and some will provide feedback and it will be helpful. But it's a real crapshoot.

Good luck with your game!
